    Yeah. Squick.

    Anyway, another over-rated book, and don’t kill me for this, is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. I didn’t like the writing, Harry seemed like a Sue, and the whole plot of the book was less original than everyone was going on about.

    I love Harry Potter, but it took me two tries to get past the beginning of the first one, and I am a committed reader. I got through it after seeing the first two movies and reading the fifth book.

    To be honest, I only got through it due to a combination of deja vu and nostalgia. I read the first chapter when it was another anonymous children’s novel, and then years later (when it was popular), I read it again and went “Hey, I sorta remember this… I think!”

    Later books were much better, but I think the first wasn’t all that bad despite the plot and cliches.

    I only started to really enjoy the series after about book 4.
