As a general rule, I don’t listen to pop. But ‘Rather Be’ by Clear Bandit and Jess Glynn is the best song I’ve heard this year.
Just my Imagination by The Temptations
More or less sums up how I feel this evening. Time to break out the whiskey.
The Stones did it better imo
Automatic Man by Micheal Sembello
Far too much love for this song right now. The whole thing, song and video, are just too dorky for words.

Favorite albums of 2014?
I was going to say Fiona Apple’s The Idler Wheel but apparently it came out in 2012. That’s how behind in music I am.
Lazaretto
Can’t stop listening to Bang Bang, send help plz.
Hi I think I’ve probably posted most of these tracks here before already but I just bandcamp’d them as a single EP called “Help Me,” listen to it right here: https://stevenlynn.bandcamp.com/
I’ve been rocking out to Rodgers & Hammerstein lately but also to the Bruno Mars song Uptown Funk
Hey Puppet, you’re a Mazzy Star fan, aren’t you? I’m enjoying their album ‘So Tonight That I Might See’ and would like some more recommendations.
Haha, well I am now. Apparently she collaborated with Massive Attack and I didn’t even realize it. Fade Into You is pretty great, too.
This might help you, though:

Ahaha, I can’t stop listening to Kpop, you guys. Someone please come save me.
I apologize, but your Seoul is lost to us.
Just got back from a TobyMac concert… best concert ever. This won’t mean anything to people who weren’t DC Talk fans, but he sang Jesus Freak!!! I’ve been wanting to hear that in concert since I was, like, seven. I screamed so loud I almost lost my voice, and I think the ladies sitting in front of us thought we were literally insane.
Haha. I’ve gone to a couple Tobymac concerts and when I was in elementary I saw a dc Talk concert. My memory is pretty fuzzy- 94 or 95, I think.
Speaking of which I just Steve Taylor in Seattle. He was another closing band at that same music fest in 94 or 95 and then he stopped making albums for 20 years. It was super fun rocking out with 100 other Steve Taylor fans- we are few, but he rocked just as hard as he ever did, leaping around the stage. Oh- if you know dc Talk/ Tobymac- you’d probably know Newsboys- Steve Taylor’s drummer is Peter Furler.
That’s pretty cool! Neat to have an opportunity like that.
My exchange student’s friend’s mom put on Back to Black in the car the other day, and I’m really starting to like Amy Winehouse.
So in response to the building Star Wars hype, this has been doing the rounds again. I’m getting delicious early-2000s nostalgia fuzzies. I used to have this entire thing memorised, which for a hearing-impaired kid with no transcript and 2000s-era computer speakers and hearing aid tech is an impressive feat.
Oh man, I remember seeing that on youtube 2007 ish. So good. Though the one I saw used live action clips like this: Star Wars but no subtitles at the time.
Magic System’s remix of “Sweet Fanta Diallo”.
The original song is about “Fanta Diallo,” a nurse who a man at a psychiatric hospital accredited his well-being to. There was no nurse called Fanta Diallo, but a song was written about her in hommage to her (she was believed to be an angel by a lot of people).
It’s just the happiest song.
Whatever you think about his vocal talents or politics, you cannot deny that Tim Minchin has an enviable grasp of rhyme and poetry.
We compose short little pieces in my music theory class, so while I was bored today I starting writing out this Irish-inspired tune for violin. One of my favorite types of music to play on the violin, I always love the spirit of Irish pieces.

Will Someone Ever Look At Me That Way? — Audra McDonald
I could listen to her forever.
Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina — Lea Salonga
Better than Patti LuPone.
The Call by Regina Spektor always gets me, and I don’t even usually like pop music.
Mack the Knife — Dave Von Ronk
If you haven’t heard of Si Cranstoun, just listen to this.
1930s jazz is literally my new favorite genre.
MEZZ MEZZROW! Not only was he the biggest drug dealer in the 30s, but an amazing clarinet player. Definitely a jazzy dude.
The A Series of Unfortunate Events soundtrack by Thomas Newman is life. I understand why it was nominated for awards.
Also if you haven’t heard Loverly Spring, you really need to (by Newman).
Not music, but still audio entertainment, so I’m posting this here.
I’m going to recommend the Black Tapes podcast. The basic pitch is “NPR meets the X-Files,” but with paranormal stuff instead of aliens. None of the “cases” ever really get solved (definitively proven one way or another), but there’s an on-going plot about the history of the paranormal investigator they follow around, which I think is the real draw. The first 12-episode season wrapped a few days ago, so now might be a good time to check it out.
Hamilton.
Holy fucking shit, you guys.
Steel Panther made me laugh my ass off.
They’re good at that, Dave. Did you get to see them live?
Walk the Moon’s ‘Shut Up and Dance’ has such good replay value.
Sorry for double post, but I made a thing! :D It worked, too!

Eh, I believe the rule of thumb re: double posting around here is “minimum wait of 1 day between posts.” You’re good.
Now that the academic year has begun again, the forum’s activity has dropped even further. Might as well double-post, keep the numbers up.
Keep Me In Your Reach — Emma Donovan & the Putbacks
More stuff from Hamilton on repeat. LISTEN TO IT NOW, GUYS.
Where do you get it, Willow? Do we have to buy the record? Did you see the production itself as well?
EDIT:
The Trolley Song — Cecile McLorin Salvant
I’m going to see it next July on Broadway. The original cast album is on YouTube in full, and it’s on Spotify and Amazon Prime Music for free. Give it a listen!
I want to see more musicals. I’ve only seen a handful… I need to coerce my sister into going to New York City again so we can see something. We were going to see Phantom of the Opera last time, but couldn’t get any good seats (we’re cheap so we bought tickets the day of), so we went to see South Pacific instead (and got pretty amazing seats, actually).
I’m still ecstatic that I got to see the Spider-Man musical, though. There’s always going to be another chance to see Wicked or whatever, but that was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The Super Mario 64 soundtrack is so freaking cool.
Some of Billy Idol’s new stuff. The way he does his vocals and background music reminds me a lot of some of David Bowie’s later stuff.
Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto in D. Makes me wonder why I ever try to write music, but it is amazing.
IAM’s album “L‘école du micro d’argent” (School of the Silver Microphone). Apparently it’s supposed to be the best French hip-hop album ever made, and I’m really digging late 90s rap right now. Very French in that most of the raps are about the state of the city of Marseilles, and the name IAM is actually a reference to the I Am a Man protests.
I finally became hamilton trash
You know your life is sad when you listen to “How Soon Is Now?” and think, yup that’s me.
Been on a huge Ian Tyson kick lately, there’s a certain sincerity to the man’s music that I can relate to. This is coming from a man who normally hates country music too.
All the best songs were written for women. I listened to the sountrack for Wicked the other day, and this morning without really thinking about it I started singing I’m Not The Girl, until I realised that a scruffy 27-year-old man singing “he could be that boy / but I’m not that girl” in falsetto is not exactly a good image.
Screw the patriarchy, I can sing whatever I want!

This former infantryman has been known to occasionally sing that one song by The Divinyls when he’s drunk and/or in the shower… Yeah.
You can sing whatever you please. Joan Baez sings a lot of songs with a male narrator. Sometimes it doesn’t work, like with “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda”, but often it does, like in “Lilly of the West” or “Long Black Veil”
Gotta say, Sturgill Simpson’s cover of Nirvana’s Bloom is on point.
I really got into The 1975 lately. They’re kinda awesome.
I like the new Martha Mavroidi album. <<Η Κλωστή και το Βελόνι>> is really lovely a capella music.
