Plus, all of those things seem pretty normal to me… I mean everyone likes Johnny Cash.
I’m listening to Bitch by the Rolling Stones
Yeah, but it seems a lot of people I talk to tend to be a big fan of one particular genre of music. I don’t, I sort of like everything so long as it’s got something interesting going on with the instruments/voice.
I mean everyone likes Johnny Cash.
Haha, true enough.
I don’t know anyone that only listens to one thing… that’s why I hate when people ask a question like “WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO?” Seems like it happens to me every fuckin’ day. Or the variation “WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU PLAY????”
Yeah, that question always annoys me too. Or, “what’s your favorite band?” Especially considering that if there’s a single type of music I listen to the most of, it’s various soundtracks from games/movies. It’s just not the right question.
I mean everyone likes Johnny Cash.
Except perhaps The Man.
My brother needs party dance music for a year 7 disco night he’s DJing for. Any suggestions?
Or, “what’s your favorite band?”
Well that’s an easy one…
“WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO?”
...guilty of that one. It’s a way to start conversation, okay?
Or, “what’s your favorite band?”
That one I can answer, though it’s really, really close. I’d have to say Queen is my favourite, followed closely (very very very closely) by The Who. Though honestly, those two flip-flop, depending on what I’ve been listening to lately. Tonight was a Queen night. (six hours straight at work).
What am I listening to now?
shifty eyes
Oh, what the hell I have no shame.
Little Things, One Direction
...guilty of that one. It’s a way to start conversation, okay?
What kind of answer do you expect, exactly?
Well, I don’t expect anything, really. I see if there’s something there that I can run with. Usually there isn’t, but I always like to ask people about their interests in general- books, TV, etc. When you have a mutual interest, it’s so much easier to talk to people.
...I listen to stuff other than bubblegum pop too :/
905, The Who
EVERY IDEA IN MY HEAD, SOMEONE ELSE HAS SAID
AT EACH END OF MY LIFE IS AN OPEN DOOR
So What by Miles Davis. I convinced my rock band last night that we should cover this. Yet another reason for old people to hate us.
Won’t Get Fooled Again, The Who.
I just survived my little sisters blaring Katy Perry at full volume.
Doing Alright, Queen. (currently watching a 1977 concert)
Sure Cure for the Blues, by The Four Jacks.
:D doo-wop will always be awesome.
Fat Bottomed Girls, Queen
I’ve started listening to Muse.
I’ve had Supermassive Black Hole stuck in my head ever since I saw Twilight all those years ago, but I never really bothered to check out the rest of their work until now. They aren’t what I typically listen to, but I’m actually really enjoying them a lot so far.
Eh, it’s ok. I do have a tendency to get top 40 stuff stuck in my head XD
You’re Probably Wondering Why I’m Here – Frank Zappa
The Halo 4 soundtrack is so, so excellent.
Don’t Stop Me Now, Queen
probably one of my favourite Queen songs.
Blackmill – Home
Love of My Life, Queen
I Didn’t Know About You by Thelonious Monk
Straight, No Chaser is such a great album.
The World’s Address, They Might be Giants
The more I listen tot his band, the more I like them.
Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard, because my friend wants to sing it with me as an assignment for one of his music classes. I am not a huge fan of this song, but I think it is growing on me.
To You by Teen Top
Never really liked Teen Top… Until I saw this MV. While K-pop isn’t exactly the epitome of good music, it’s just so damn fun.
I also really enjoyed that song and dance… but I’m not such a fan of any of their other music. I haven’t allowed it, really, ever since I realized they’re all younger than I. siiigh
She’s Got A Way, Billy Joel
Some Nights, fun.
I’ve been kinda-sorta-extremely obsessed with Steven Wilson lately.
Light My Fire, The Doors
god this song never leaves my head though
look whose birthday it is!
Daltrey turns 69 today.
Still pretty cool for an old guy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YFWMtzyKYc
I listened to this more than 30 times today.
Line of Fire, Junip
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSaDElz7wSI
This song is seriously cool, and the video is awesome. A series of wigglegrams and slow-mo shots that tell the lifestory of this old couple in a very desperate-unspoken-regret, Disney/Pixar’s Up kind of way.
God Old-Fashioned Lover Boy, Queen
No matter what mood I’m in this song makes it better
I’ve been re-listening to T-ara’s “Funky Town” album (Black Eyes repackage).
Out of all of the K-pop groups I listen to, T-ara is definitely one of my favorites. A lot of people “boycotted” them after their giant scandal, but to me they still stand out as one of the better groups in terms of effort and overall musical quality.
I’m Gonna Crawl by Led Zeppelin
When the Man Comes Around, Johnny Cash
I LOVE THE BARD’S SONG.
Back Through Time, Alestorm
my friend introduced me to Pirate Metal
which is apparently a thing
@SWQ
I have a bunch of Blind Guardian’s music, but somehow I missed that song. But I’ve been listening to a lot of Spoony’s Counter Monkey videos about Role Playing and I realized his intro was Blind Guardian. Really enjoying it :)
Pirate Metal
Ohohoho that’s just the beginning. Next stop: VIKING METAL
@Falling
I had a mini-nerdgazam when Spoony used Sacred World at the end of one of the Ultima videos.
Also, what is the name of the intro song for Counter Monkey?
Ohohoho that’s just the beginning. Next stop: VIKING METAL
And then, VIKING FOLK METAL.
Edit: How do you make Call Me Maybe not only not annoying but even, dare I say, awesome? Switch the lyrics with Nine Inch Nails’ Head Like a Hole.
Best of You – Foo Fighters
Melody , Afterlife Remix , Constellations . . . well pretty much anything by this guy.
The Meister by B’z
I love Clint Mansell’s soundtracks.
Ohohoho that’s just the beginning. Next stop: VIKING METAL
Is that a real thing, too?
Yes
Yes
Any good bands?
The only thing I know about that is that there is apparently a band called “Longships and Mead.”
“Longships and Mead.”
That’s a song. And it is awesome.
The band is called Glittertind, after a mountain in Norway. Proof that Norwegian/Viking Folk Metal is actually pretty cool.
While we’re on the subject of mead (and wenches) . . .
That’s actually what I first thought of when mead got mentioned.
That’s a song. And it is awesome.
Yeah, that is pretty cool
currently listening to They Might be Giant’s cover of Yellow Submarine
Tobacco Island—Flogging Molly.
Tomorrow, Joe Walsh
Stay The Same by Bonobo
Stay The Same by Bonobo
Aww yeah. Do you also listen to Emancipator?
Aww yeah. Do you also listen to Emancipator?
Nope. What album do you recommend I start with?
I’ve just about finished listening to Black Sands. I’ve heard almost all of the songs in the album many, many times before, I just never realized they were all produced by Bonobo.
Ah man, I love discovering new music.
You’d probably be best with Safe in the Steep Cliffs or Dusk to Dawn. Soon It Will Be Cold Enough isn’t bad, but I don’t think it’s as strong.
Calculus is making me feel fucking hostile, so I’m on a Pantera spree.
Pantera and Steel Panther should tour together. They could call it Steel Panterae.
I’m on a Pantera spree.
HIGH NOON, YOU’RE DOOMED, WE’RE COMIN’ FOR YOU, WE’RE THE COWBOYS FROM HELL!!!
Nanobots, They Might be Giants
Soul Serenade by King Curtis
Last words I heard before bed last night:
You can check out any time you like,
But you can never leave!
epic guitar finish
I’m listening to Shakti.
Discovered a new group called Caravan Palace. I’ve only hear Star Scat, Ended with the Night and Brotherswing so far, but I’m really enjoying them.
Fiona Apple’s Extraordinary Machine
Story of the last two weeks of my life, right there.
My Brother the Ape, They Might be Giants
Exodus sang by Edith Piaf
Gangsta’s Paradise (the album) by Coolio
So chill.
Hey, does anybody know how to learn to play the ocarina while making no sound and pretending I’m not here?
Gloria, the Doors
Hey, does anybody know how to learn to play the ocarina while making no sound and pretending I’m not here?
I have an ocarina. It’s not a real instrument. Get a flute.
This guy begs to differ.
The real problem is that I would have to learn the flute without making any sound, as well.
Why? Also aren’t you hearing impaired? That will, well, impair your ability to learn…
Because my brother is aggressively silentist. Even the slightest bump or shuffle, he immediately investigates and shushes. He’s worse than the stuffiest librarian.
Also, I am impaired, not deaf, thank you very much. With my hearing aids have 90% of my hearing; without, 60%. That’s plenty enough to learn music with. My only issue is time and my brother.
Yeah, your hearing is probably way better than mine will be in a few years.
Tell your brother to fuck off imo
I finally got around to buying some assorted Corinne Bailey Rae songs, as well as the first three suites of Janelle Monae’s Metropolis concept thingy (which are all that’s currently out, spread out between an EP and an album) which I’d been listening to a bunch on YouTube. My ears are very happy with my surprisingly inexpensive purchase, given that I got 31 tracks for a bit shy of 18 bucks.
I was going to say The Fountain OST, but I see SWQ also put that down awhile ago, yay!
I didn’t particularly like the movie, but I really liked the soundtrack- especially Death is a Road to Awe
I’ve probably put Mutemath before, but I’m really enjoying this song right now:
I’m listening to Our Glorious National Anthem.
I’ve been listening to Frank Ocean’s album “Channel ORANGE.” It’s pretty great, and it definitely deserves the praise and acclaim its been getting.
Little Talks, by Of Monsters and Men.
Weirdly catchy.
I went to a They Might be Giants concert this past week!
It was loads of fun, and we got up close enough to lean on the stage. I knew most of the songs and danced with the drunk people behind me. Good times.
Everyone’s Waiting, by Missy Higgins. So much raw emotion and soul and depth (and unpretentious musical talent), this is what pop music should be like.
And everyone’s waiting
But it’s getting harder to hear what my heart is saying
Cos everyone’s waiting
