Sexy and I Know It – Barack Obama
This Jesus Must Die, from Jesus Christ Superstar
Summersong —- The Decemberists
God, this song gives me FEELINGS or something.
Somebody else likes the Decemberists?!
NO. It’s like, so totally obvious Crunchy was referring to feelings of much loathing.
Yes, so much loathing. Yes indeed.
Loathing, What is this feeling so
unadulterated loathing sudden and new felt the
for her face moment I laid eyes on
her voice you,my pulse is
her clothing rushing my head is
lets just say reeling
WE LOATHE IT ALL!
Oh what is this feeling?
every little trait however
small makes our very flesh does it have a name
begin to crawl yes, ahhhh
Loathing
Loathing
There’s a strange
exhiliration
Loathing
In such total
detestation
Loathing
It’s so pure so strong
So strong
Though I do admit it came on fast
still I do believe that it can last and I will be…
Loathing Loathing for forever
Loathing Loathing
truly deeply loathing
Loathing you you
my whole life long
loathing, unadulterated loathing
‘Alabama Song’ by the Doors. So shady, but so good.
Somebody likes Wicked, I see. :)
Dude, the Decemberists are awesome.
Yes yes yes yes yes yes
Mikael Akerfeldt and Steven Wilson combo creepy, but good.
My “My Music” folder now has a scroll bar.
Yaaaaaay!
Today I listened to Be Thou My Vision for an hour on repeat.
I am not even kidding.
But then I followed that up by shrieking along to Jesus Christ Superstar on my way home.
So I have no idea what that says about me.
This is such a sweet song. I always love listening to it. Cheers me right up. :)
Skillet—You are My Hope.
@swenson-I can’t tell if you’re trolling or not.
Rolling Stones—-Gimme Shelter
I was merely following the trail of conversation. Loathing seemed to be the buzzword at that moment. I have never seen Wicked from start to finish, but have heard numerous parts of its soundtrack, and that song more times than most.
Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major — Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Ah. I’ve never been a huge fan of Wicked, though I don’t hate it. The only musical I can truly say I hate is Spring Awakening. I have a special spot of loathing in my heart for that show.
The last thing I listened to was….
Hosanna from Jesus Christ Superstar.
@BlueMask – definitely the former. ;) But I figured hey, why not introduce everyone to it if they haven’t heard it already? That song is, like, the introduction to the internet. If you haven’t watched that video at least once in your life, you can’t call yourself a true internetite.
MYAAH!
^I see what you mean.
New musical obsession: Porcupine Tree
Run Devil Run by…
It’s almost embarrassing how much J/K-pop I’ve been listening to lately. >.>
^Nothing to be embarrassed about. :P
Sherlock by SHINee. Their dance choreography is amazing. :D
So, like, one of my favorite music genres and Sherlock combined? Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I’ve been listening to SNSD’s new “mini-album.” Even though I can’t understand Korean, I really like it.
I sort of like Girls Generation…I just find the idea of girl pop bands really fascinating. Also, they’re all kind of gorgeous. is shallow
New Music: The Civil Wars. It started with that song on the Hunger Games soundtrack where they sing with Taylor Swift, and then it got to their other song on the soundtrack, and now its gotten to their other music. Current obsession is “Barton Hollow.”
Yes! They’re wonderful.
I sort of like Girls Generation…I just find the idea of girl pop bands really fascinating.
Yeah, I haven’t listened to all of GG/SNSD’s songs, but I quite like the ones I’ve heard so far. While there is a certain amount of autotune, when all nine of them sing together in a chorus it sounds really amazing. I also really like how diverse the songs are, with all kinds of rock, electronic, and old school elements thrown into them.
Also, they’re all kind of gorgeous. is shallow
That, too.
Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, Mormon Tabernacle Choir
SIMS 1 MUSIC OH MY GOSH.
And since I own the game I have the music on my freaking computer.
Crappy Christian Music That I am Ashamed to Admit That I Like.
it’s soothing ok.
:I
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is not crappy, and Be Thou My Vision is an excellent song.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is not crappy, and Be Thou My Vision is an excellent song.
Oh, I wasn’t referring to them. I proudly listen to my hymns, despite not being religious.
I was talking about my 80’s/90’s Christian soft rock that I pretend I don’t own/like. :p
Currently listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s version of A Mighty Fortress is Our God.
A Mighty Fortress is Our God.
Ahahaha, whenever I hear that song I always think about ‘Gilmore Girls’. Dude, what’s a bulwark?
Hilarious.
The world is cruel
The world is wicked
It’s I alone who you can trust in this whole city!
I AM YOUR OOOONLY FRIEEEEND!

LIKE FIIIIRE
HELLFIRE
THIS FIRE IN MY SKIN
THIS BURNING DESIRE
IS TURNING ME TO SIN
...That reminds me A LOT of Judge Turpin’s version of Johanna from Sweeney Todd.
I’ve been spending all day listening to songs from the Hunger Games soundtrack. The best ones are “Eyes Wide Open,” “One Engine,” “Safe and Sound,” and “Abraham’s Daughter.” There’s also “Girl on Fire,” which wasn’t on the soundtrack but should have been. :P
The soundtrack or the song album (called Songs from District 12 and Beyond)? I don’t recognize “Girl on Fire” from the song album, which I own, and I only know of “Eyes Open” as opposed to “Eyes Wide Open,” so I’m not entirely sure what you’re talking about.
It is “Eyes Open,” I just messed it up.
“Girl on Fire” was going to be on there, but it got cut. I found it on Youtube.
I also like “Daughter’s Lament.” It sounded like a old mountain ballad.
Oh, cool. (Link to Girl on Fire?) I really like the album; there are just two songs (Eyes Open and Lover is Childlike) I don’t like, which is quite impressive given its wide range of artists. My favorites would probably be Abraham’s Daughter, Safe and Sound, Kingdom Come, and Take the Heartland.
Baby Steps by SNSD
I also liked “Nothing to Remember,” “Kingdom Come,” and “Run Daddy Run.” (About the only ones I didn’t like were Take the Heartland and The Ruler and the Killer.)
Here’s the link to Girl on Fire.
Its probably my favorite song connected with The Hunger Games.
People have started a petition to put it on the soundtrack for Catching Fire
Hmm, I am not caring for Girl on Fire. Sounds kind of… obvious, in terms of lyrics, and I do not like the singer.
See, I actually kind of liked that it used actual dialogue from the books, but I understand that everyone might not like that.
Oh, and after listening to Barton Hollow, I think The Civil Wars ought to do the Hanging Tree for Mockingjay.
Anyway, for the most part I really liked this soundtrack. I think some of the best songs are the ones about her father.
Hangman, hangman, hangman
slack up your rope
Oh slack it for a while
For I see my true love coming
And she’s walked these many long miles
Tonight, I took my co-worker’s advice and decided to branch out by listening to new music.
I flipped around on the radio stations (though I get bad reception at my office)
I tried listening to about two minutes of rap and changed the channel. Two minutes of Country, and then changed the channel. I was ok with the rock station but that got old pretty fast and as I was flipping around, I heard opera. So I stopped there and just listened to the classical station most of the night.
Oh well. I TRIED.
Death and All Of His Friends by Coldplay
Karamazova, try this playlist and see if anything strikes your fancy.
I was ok with the rock station but that got old pretty fast
Rock radio usually isn’t the best way to get a sense of how great the genre can be, just sayin’.
Currently listening to: A Perfect Circle’s debut album, Mer de Noms. That’s a pretty damn near perfect rock record in my book, although I don’t know if it’s to your taste, exactly, Inspector.
Marina and the Diamonds- Lonely Hearts Club.
Rock radio usually isn’t the best way to get a sense of how great the genre can be, just sayin’.
Yeah, radio is a pretty terrible way to find new music. Try asking some friends for some recommendations. I’ve found some new K-pop to listen to thanks to Spanman. :D
White Blank Page by Mumford and Sons
Oooh, good song! Have you heard The Cave?
^ MY FAVORITE.
I love the Cave.
Death Cab For Cutie – Cath
The Major-General’s Song.
UGH SO CATCHY.
Ma ha ha ha haaa.
Ma ha ha ha haaa.
I just downloaded the whole recording from amazon. I blame you.
what do you call a recording of opera? I mean, a musical is a cast recording (NOT a soundtrack, grr.), but I have no idea what you call an opera.
An opera?
Seriously I have no idea.
Willow, I have their album, and I can’t stop listening to it. :D The Cave is lookingforme’s favourite.
Melancholy Hill by The Gorillaz
The Hazards of Love 4 (The Drowned) – The Decemberists.
This song gives me all of the feels. It’s just so sad.
@RVL
Yay, The Cave! And Little Lion Man! WHOOP WHOOP.
Phoenix – Rome (Lanny Merge Remix)
When you’re listening to music through stereo, do the singer’s (or singers’) voice(s) mostly come from the right and the middle? The music itself, does it normally combine with the voice(s) mainly coming from the right, mixing with the music coming from the left?
Depends on how it’s mixed. Vocals generally come straight center, with a slight left or right bias depending on the band and album.
Unless your music specifically uses panning to left or right as an effect, you should be getting about an equal sound level from both sides.
Oh, okay.
“The Only Exception” by Paramore
Kpop? :D
I listened to the song, No One.. My headphones are pretty nice and my sound should be correctly balanced, so this should be semi accurate:
The singer’s voice is mainly centered, with a subtle echo that goes from left to right throughout the song. Drums are consistently on the left, “electronic sounds” are middle and right and piano is right bias. I’m not sure how helpful that will be, but you can try listening to the song a couple of times only wearing the left headphone, then the right headphones, and then both of them together. If the music sort of matches up with what I’m saying then everything should be fine.
Also, I’m not sure what operating system you run, but on Windows 7 you should be able to see a “sound” icon on the system tray (bottom right corner on the taskbar). Right click on it and click on “Open Volume Mixer.” A new windows should pop up with a list of devices, click on the icon of the one that says “Speakers.” Another windows should pop up. Click on the “Levels” tab, and then on the “Balance” button. If the “L” and “R” values match up then everything should be balanced computer wise.
Unfortunately, the singers’ voices are indeed in the middle channel, so there is no way to separate them from the instruments or adjust their volume independently. In many genres the singing is muffled by the thudding bass line.
@Puppet: Yep. I rarely listen to any other music outside of Kpop. :3
I think I can kind of hear what you mean. I mean, the drums (I think it’s drums… it sounds more like some other instruments — a piano for example, but I’m pretty sure there’s some drumming there) are definitely more obvious in the left and I can definitely recognise the piano on the right.
And thanks for introducing me to the volume mixer. I’ve been playing around with the settings on both the volume mixer and on my hearing equipments and now I’m hearing Kpop in a new way. I didn’t know music could sound this… beautiful. It’s so… for lack of better word, amazing. :D I just want to sit hear and listen to the songs all night long.
Sorry for the wait, No One! I was out of the house most of yesterday. Looks like you got all set up though. :D If you need any more help let me know.
I listened to the song just for grins. Better than I was expecting.
Oh, Better Far to Live and Die, The Pirates of Penzance
FOR I AM A PIRATE KIIIIING
AND IT IS IT IS A GLORIOUS THING TO BE A PIRATE KING
“Better Far To Live and Die” is the name of the song?
I always thought of it as The Pirate King Song.
I think Pirates of Penzance may be the greatest operetta the world has ever known.
“Better Far To Live and Die” is the name of the song?
That’s what it’s called in the track listing, so yeah.
I think Pirates of Penzance may be the greatest operetta the world has ever known.
I’m probably seeing it next month.
Be jealous.
“Brick by Boring Brick” by Paramore
I also like the music video.
Have you heard the string quartet version?
I have it on repeat.
That’s really cool, BlueMask. I’ll have to listen to more of their stuff.
I’m Called Little Buttercup, HMS Pinafore
EDIT:
I NOW HAVE JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR IN CZECH.
IT IS EVERY BIT AS COOL AS IT SOUNDS.
Classiest cover of Boulevard of Broken Dreams EVER.
Will I betray my proletarian roots if I thought it was a cover of the Green Day song?
Reflection, from Mulan.
I never saw the movie, but the song is gorgeous.
I totally thought it was a Green Day cover too.
M83 – Midnight City
Will I betray my proletarian roots if I thought it was a cover of the Green Day song?

Pfft. Philistines.
Inky and I are such uncultured ruffians. :P
I bet you thought “The Boys Are Back in Town” was by the Backstreet Boys.
Or worse, that “What About Me” was written by Shannon Noll.
I bet you thought “The Boys Are Back in Town” was by the Backstreet Boys.
Please tell me you just made this up off the top of your head and they never actually made a cover of that song.
Please.
If they didn’t, I have an extremely sadistic memory.
You must be thinking of Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).
“Backstreet’s back, alright!”
...That’s what I remember. Anyway, I couldn’t find a cover of “The Boys are Back in Town” by the Backstreet Boys, so good news for sansa. I also had to look up who Shannon Noll was.
I also had to look up who Shannon Noll was.
I…
I am so sorry.
If they didn’t, I have an extremely sadistic memory.
Forgive me, Taku, but I can only hope this is the case. The needs of the many, etc.
Hammer the dulcimer my darling.
In other news,
Rocky Road to Dublin — The High Kings
Also covered by the Dropkick Murphys, but you can never understand the lyrics of almost anything they sing. The Dubliners sang it for a montage in one of the Robert Downey, Jr. Sherlock Holmes movies.
