Maybe you’re being reminded of the Postal Service when you listen to Owl City?

Well yeah, Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie both have the same singer.

Owl City was kind of cutesy when they first came out, now I’m just getting tired of hearing their songs.

Owl City isn’t exactly my kind of music, I just listened to it because I saw it on the front page of Youtube once or twice.

  2.

I still don’t know what’s the big deal about Owl City.

  3.

I still don’t know what’s the big deal about Owl City.

Ew. There isn’t a big deal.

  4.

    @Snow White Queen

I still don’t know what’s the big deal about Owl City.

    Ditto for Lady Gaga.

  5.

The live version of Your Lips are Red by St. Vincent which is super cool.

Ew. There isn’t a big deal.

I wish there wasn’t. Their music is a little too very typically teenage girl cutesy.

    Ditto for Lady Gaga.

Her songs are a specific Auto-tuned sort of pop that’s very in these days, and her clothes are weird.

  6.

Her songs are a specific Auto-tuned sort of pop that’s very in these days, and her clothes are weird.

And that’s exactly what I hate about her.

  7.

She’s auto-tuned, really? My sister showed me a live performance and her voice sounded real enough. At least, it wasn’t that egregious crap on We Are The World for Haiti. Honestly, I don’t really love her or hate her. Her clothes are weird, but whatever, I don’t care. Her music isn’t in my taste, so mostly I just ignore it.

  8.

    She’s auto-tuned, really?

She can sing, but her songs are so edited that it’s easy to think she can’t.

  9.

    Okay, that makes more sense.

One of the reasons I don’t actually hate Lady Gaga is because I have heard her sing and she does it well enough, which I respect. I just don’t like what she sings.

  10.
  11.

Exactly. She’s pretty good. Like Christina Aguilera, kind of, but less powerful.

(Christina happens to be one of the few pop artists I genuinely respect in terms of talent.)

  12.

Two of Us, The Beatles. <3 this song.

  13.

Gandalf the While by Howard Shore

  14.

the finale of the first act of Fiddler on the Roof.

I love this soundtrack so much. Topol is made of win.

  15.

You Must Love Me from Evita — Oh wait, the song just changed; now it’s Midas Shadow by Al Stewart. :D

  16.

Mr. Blue Sky by the Electric Light Orchestra

:D This song is so very excellent.

  17.

Rhapsody in Blue, by George Gershwin. Otherwise known as the BEST SONG EVER.

  20.

@ arksa I kind of like Train.

Does anyone have any recommendations for songs in the vein of “Goodbye, Mr. A” and “Mr. Blue Sky?”

  21.

    HELP PLEASE:

I would appreciate it if anyone could recommend some easy to learn folk songs? I have a community service thing tomorrow (technically it’s classical, but I can’t sing classical at all and I don’t have time to learn anything, so yeah, easy is good.) I do always leave this sort of thing to the last minute. XP

The Last Rose of Summer is a nice folk song, easy to learn and a good display for vocal talents. The main tune is easy to learn on most wind instruments, but embellishing it is a bit tricky.

  23.

    The Hardest Part by Coldplay
And I agree; The Last Rose of Summer is a really good song to sing. :D

  24.
If you're an alto, "The Water Is Wide" is a good song--it's got several verses, but the melody is the same for all of them. So once you learn the (very easy) tune, you know the whole song!
  25.

    Okay, I’ll check those out.

  26.

    Popcorn. by hot butter.

  27.

Wow. That song is actually pretty good. Not “wow,” as in “I doubt your taste,” but “Wow, it sounded kind of fake.” XD

Soldier by Ingrid Michaelson. Been stuck in my head for ages now. That, along with the beginning 50 seconds or so of In The Sun by by Joseph Arthur.

  28.

I’ve had this song, ‘Mordred’s Lullaby’ stuck in my head. I found it completely by accident, but I really like it. Basically, it’s about Mordred’s mother (whether it’s Morgause or Morgana) plotting over his cradle to use him to cause Arthur’s downfall.

That gets stuck in my head quite often. I was walking through school the other day and singing it under my breath. Some little seventh grader was right in front of me. He must have heard, because he quick glanced around and sped up.

I’ve had Assassins stuck in my head for about a week now. Bad thing, since I was flying, and had to stop myself from singing lines like: “What a wonder is a gun, what a versitile invention…” out loud. But it’s a brilliant musical.
