Rather a lot of Flight of the Conchords’ stuff. Mostly Virgil’s fault.

  2.
  3.

I didn’t want to make a new thread, as this was the ‘general music thread’, but:

For a community service thing I’m doing, I’m singing to the elderly, and the theme is jazz and swing. As some of you may have picked up…I don’t really listen to any jazz. At all.

So any recommendations of nice jazz/swing songs for me to perform that are easy to learn (I don’t have a lot of time to practice) would be nice. (I’m a soprano, if that helps you any.)

  4.

Akk, sorry SWQ, I’m more into musicals and rock… D:

Not While I’m Around from Sweeney Todd

  5.

S’ok. Thought I’d bend the theme a little and sing ‘Oh! Darling’ by the Beatles. I can make it sound kind of soulful, at least. We’ll see.

  6.

Oh no, oh no, oh no. I have Seven Things by Miley Cyrus (or whatever her name is) stuck in my head. ARGHHHH!!!!! STUPID TEDDY BEARS!

  7.

    Hahaha, Romantic Vampire Lover.

I’m listening to “Man” by The Bird and the Bee.

But I’m not going to yet because I’m incredibly cheap, and youtube will suffice for now.

Yes, I’m listening to it because I looked up Steph’s song and then something else by the same artist.

  16.

but do you like stand in the rain?

  17.

Yes! It’s very catchy as well.

  18.

    Yeah!

Do you listen to BarlowGirl at all?

  19.

    I haven’t heard of them/her.

  20.

They’re amazing. Superchick did that song called ‘Barlow Girls’, remember? That was about them.

So today when doing set painting for the school play (I got a headache from the paint, too…), we were listening to the director’s iPod. She has a lot of country songs, which I don’t really like, but she also has musicals. So we were listening to Hairspray.

Phoenix is indeed quite interesting. When I first heard them I wasn’t quite sure where to place them. (if that makes sense ;P)

Sing Sing Sing by er… dammit I should really know this…

  29.

The closest genre I can think of is “electronica” and I don’t think I fully know the meaning of that word cough, so yeah.

I finally got around to trying out BarlowGirl by listening to “Beautiful Ending.”

  30.

I think Phoenix is actually alternative rock…

I like their crazy TV show.
It makes no sense, but one episode involves fencing.

Since I’m very late to this thread (and no way am i going to read the last 11 pages O_o)

Here’s something that might be appropriate for this site: Cases of a Misused Apostrophe. I’ve had this song stuck in my head for days.

  38.

Fireflies by Owl City. I can’t believe I missed out on this guy for so long. He’s like a better, less pathetic version of Aqualung.

I feel so weird posting this right after you have brought up rock/metal and Iron Maiden. I feel like an orange popcicle…

@ LaLa: Yes, I do like Iron Maiden. I am also a rock/metal/grunge fan.

However, I have not heard as much of Maiden as I would like, simply because they’ve got so many albums out, but Powerslave is great, and of course I know the more wellknown songs.

I also enjoy the odd bit of metal (namely DragonForce and Blind Guardian). Speaking of which, I just listened to Blind Guardian’s cover of the Beach Boy song Barbra Ann. It was…interresting.

  41.

Blind Guardian covered the Beach Boys? NO KIDDING!

I do have to say that my favorite metal cover of a nonmetal song is Children of Bodom’s ‘Oops! I Did it Again’.

  42.

M by Le Roi des Ombres (which means “the king of shadows.” Pretty catchy, no? ;P)

  43.
  44.

A Little Priest from Sweeney Todd

  45.

    @SWQ:
For Maiden, on the contrary to most old bands, their newest albums are IMO some of their best… all my fav. songs are from em :o
(The albums: Brave New World, Dance of Death and MoL&D mold O_o )

  46.

    Epiphany from Sweeney Todd

  47.

@ Lala- I’m going to India this winter break so hopefully I can get some CDs cheap…Iron Maiden is definitely on the list. :D

    Currently: Design Your Universe- Epica

  48.

For some reason, I’ve gotten a huge nostalgia rush for Home Movies. So, I’m just listening to a bunch of songs from the show like Don’t Put Marbles In Your Nose, Don’t Kill Children, and the Franz Kafka Rock Opera.

  49.

Ok, I totally think that my Women’s choir should sing Passing of the Elves from LotR. It would be utter win.

I really shouldn’t like this song, but I can’t help it!

What’s not to like? It perfectly captures the insanity that is Death Note. And speaking of Maximum the Hormone, they did a song about DBZ once.

  66.

Meh, Maximum the Hormone is just a bit… Erm… too screamy for my taste. What’s up People?! is about the only song of theirs I can bear listening to. But yes, it does capture the insanity of Death Note. :D

Weight of the World by Evanescence

  67.

    shudder Justin Bieber.

If I ever like his music, start cursing my lack of taste. Has anyone here heard his ‘music?’

  68.

  69.

I cannot explain, only show. He is fifteen, and apparently has an album out.

It isn’t always my choice to follow mainstream music, by the way. It’s often because someone will link me or say “OMG OMG U MUST HEAR THIS” in real life.
