Defying Gravity from Wicked
Rather a lot of Flight of the Conchords’ stuff. Mostly Virgil’s fault.
I didn’t want to make a new thread, as this was the ‘general music thread’, but:
For a community service thing I’m doing, I’m singing to the elderly, and the theme is jazz and swing. As some of you may have picked up…I don’t really listen to any jazz. At all.
So any recommendations of nice jazz/swing songs for me to perform that are easy to learn (I don’t have a lot of time to practice) would be nice. (I’m a soprano, if that helps you any.)
Akk, sorry SWQ, I’m more into musicals and rock… D:
Not While I’m Around from Sweeney Todd
S’ok. Thought I’d bend the theme a little and sing ‘Oh! Darling’ by the Beatles. I can make it sound kind of soulful, at least. We’ll see.
Oh no, oh no, oh no. I have Seven Things by Miley Cyrus (or whatever her name is) stuck in my head. ARGHHHH!!!!! STUPID TEDDY BEARS!
Hahaha, Romantic Vampire Lover.
I’m listening to “Man” by The Bird and the Bee.
Well, it’s passed now. Phew!
Space Dementia by Muse
Just try not to sing along to this song.
Moon soundtrack. :3 I love it so much I wish I could bu— oh wait, I CAN.
But I’m not going to yet because I’m incredibly cheap, and youtube will suffice for now.
What’s Up People?! by Maximum the Hormone
It’s only because I just finished watching Death Note though. ;)
Yet another FuMP release: A Little Undead
Moldorm, dang you.
Well, I’m listening to this because… it’s less catchy. I can resist!
LET’s get DOWN to BUS-iness…
To deFEAT the HUNS...
:D
I ALWAYS THINK OF THAT TOO! And of course, no one understands what I’m talking about, so I have to explain Mulan to them. ;)
Uprising by Muse
In honor of Halloween:
Sally’s Song- Amy Lee.
C’est ça Halloween by… someone… who translated the English version of A Nightmare Before Christmas in to French…
Stand in the Rain by Superchick.
I cannot get enough of that song.
I’m listening to “Me Against the World” by Superchick.
Yes, I’m listening to it because I looked up Steph’s song and then something else by the same artist.
but do you like stand in the rain?
Yes! It’s very catchy as well.
Yeah!
Do you listen to BarlowGirl at all?
I haven’t heard of them/her.
They’re amazing. Superchick did that song called ‘Barlow Girls’, remember? That was about them.
http://www.myspace.com/barlowgirl
So today when doing set painting for the school play (I got a headache from the paint, too…), we were listening to the director’s iPod. She has a lot of country songs, which I don’t really like, but she also has musicals. So we were listening to Hairspray.
Wonderful by Gary Go, because I need something happy to drown out the whispers of the damned, otherwise I will not sleep tonight.
...I hate you, Yahtzee.
Defying Gravity from Wicked
The Ponyo Theme, from Ponyo.
Lots of Ghibli music.
Castle on a Cloud from Les Mis.
Mamma Mia by Abba
This is so awesome.
To Myself I Turned- Lacuna Coil.
They used to be good, and now they kind of suck. :(
Smooth by Santana
Pandora brought me “Fences” by Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, which has a very interesting sound.
Phoenix is indeed quite interesting. When I first heard them I wasn’t quite sure where to place them. (if that makes sense ;P)
Sing Sing Sing by er… dammit I should really know this…
The closest genre I can think of is “electronica” and I don’t think I fully know the meaning of that word cough, so yeah.
I finally got around to trying out BarlowGirl by listening to “Beautiful Ending.”
/feels guilty
I think Phoenix is actually alternative rock…
Yellow by Coldplay
is abashed Yessssss. Most likely.
Day 16: Loser- Ayreon
Sixteen Military Wives by The Decemberists.
I love that song. :D
TriOpticon – Guardians of Time
Rest my Chemistry by Interpol
Christmas music!
Pat a Pan right now. :)
Bad by U2
Samson went back to bed, not much hair left on his head. He ate a slice of wonder bread and went right back to bed.
Take the last train to clarksville…take the last train to clarksville….
:D
Yay for the Monkees! Even if they are a Beatles knockoff, they’re fun.
I like their crazy TV show.
It makes no sense, but one episode involves fencing.
Since I’m very late to this thread (and no way am i going to read the last 11 pages O_o)
So i just ask, any rock/metal fans around here?
Personally, I can’t think of life w/o:
I know SWQ likes Iron Maiden. (I do too ;P)
Down Once More/Track Down this Murderer from Phantom of the Opera
Don’t Download This Song by Weird Al
It always gets stuck in my head when/just after I illegally download music.
Here’s something that might be appropriate for this site: Cases of a Misused Apostrophe. I’ve had this song stuck in my head for days.
Fireflies by Owl City. I can’t believe I missed out on this guy for so long. He’s like a better, less pathetic version of Aqualung.
I feel so weird posting this right after you have brought up rock/metal and Iron Maiden. I feel like an orange popcicle…
Little Priest from Sweeney Todd. I’m in the mood for musicals.
Brown Like That by G-Brown, the Rhyme Minister (aka Jon Culshaw)
@ LaLa: Yes, I do like Iron Maiden. I am also a rock/metal/grunge fan.
However, I have not heard as much of Maiden as I would like, simply because they’ve got so many albums out, but Powerslave is great, and of course I know the more wellknown songs.
I also enjoy the odd bit of metal (namely DragonForce and Blind Guardian). Speaking of which, I just listened to Blind Guardian’s cover of the Beach Boy song Barbra Ann. It was…interresting.
Blind Guardian covered the Beach Boys? NO KIDDING!
I do have to say that my favorite metal cover of a nonmetal song is Children of Bodom’s ‘Oops! I Did it Again’.
M by Le Roi des Ombres (which means “the king of shadows.” Pretty catchy, no? ;P)
A Little Priest from Sweeney Todd
@SWQ:
For Maiden, on the contrary to most old bands, their newest albums are IMO some of their best… all my fav. songs are from em :o
(The albums: Brave New World, Dance of Death and MoL&D mold O_o )
Epiphany from Sweeney Todd
@ Lala- I’m going to India this winter break so hopefully I can get some CDs cheap…Iron Maiden is definitely on the list. :D
Currently: Design Your Universe- Epica
For some reason, I’ve gotten a huge nostalgia rush for Home Movies. So, I’m just listening to a bunch of songs from the show like Don’t Put Marbles In Your Nose, Don’t Kill Children, and the Franz Kafka Rock Opera.
Don’t Stand So Close To Me, by The Police.
>.<
And that’s bringing up a fun discussion with my roommates…
Erotomania by Dream Theater
Sing for Absolution by Muse
Snow by RHCP
Tell Me Baby by RHCP
Blackout by Muse
Powerslave by Iron Maiden.
Egyptian themed songs are awesome. :D
“On the Bus Mall” by The Decemberists is great.
Dance of Death by Iron Maiden
Ok, I totally think that my Women’s choir should sing Passing of the Elves from LotR. It would be utter win.
SWQ, that would be TOTALLY AWESOME. I love that choral arrangement. :D
Evil by Interpol
‘Meteor’ by The Bird and the Bee. It’s very nice. :)
Masquerade from Phantom of the Opera
Songs by Aqualung. <3
I love Brighter then Sunshine soooo much.
Auf Asche by Franz Ferdinand
Am I the only one who gets mild/moderate headaches from overly synthesized songs?
Kanye West’s music, 99% of the rap music I’ve heard, etc.
windmere, you are not alone. Ditto for music blared out of car speakers.
I get headaches too. It’s not just you. ;)
Fallen Embers by Enya
I don’t get headaches. I just get really irritated.
“Reset” by Ayaka Hirahara.
I’m generally neutral on Japanese songs, but I liked this one for some reason =\
Bring Him Home, Les Miserables.
RAndom musical observation:
I HATE that stupid fireflies song. SO annoyng.
What’s Up People?! by Maximum the Hormone
I really shouldn’t like this song, but I can’t help it!
Walk the Walk by Poe.
And it’s to a really awesome Firefly fanvid…
Prolouge, Les Miserables.
Awesomeness.
I really shouldn’t like this song, but I can’t help it!
What’s not to like? It perfectly captures the insanity that is Death Note. And speaking of Maximum the Hormone, they did a song about DBZ once.
Meh, Maximum the Hormone is just a bit… Erm… too screamy for my taste. What’s up People?! is about the only song of theirs I can bear listening to. But yes, it does capture the insanity of Death Note. :D
Weight of the World by Evanescence
shudder Justin Bieber.
If I ever like his music, start cursing my lack of taste. Has anyone here heard his ‘music?’
I don’t follow mainstream music, so can someone explain Justin Bieber to me?
I cannot explain, only show. He is fifteen, and apparently has an album out.
It isn’t always my choice to follow mainstream music, by the way. It’s often because someone will link me or say “OMG OMG U MUST HEAR THIS” in real life.
Edit: BEWARE OF CLICKING THE LINK ABOVE.
I cannot explain, only show. He is fifteen, and apparently has an album out
X
GOOD GOD, MAKE IT DIE!
Edit: Gloatia’s following him on Twitter, you know. Hmm.
Justin Bieber.
THAT IS A CURSE WORD. WE DO NOT SPEAK OF IT HERE. YEAH.
Time Is Running Out by Muse
AAAAHHHH!! AAAAAAHHHHHH!!! IT HURTS!!!!
It must be cleansed with HOLY FIRE!!
A sort of Homecoming, U2.
Darts of Pleasure by Franz Ferdinand
I have never heard of this Justin Bieber person. I feel so happy and unspoiled.
Would You Go With Me by Josh Turner. Ooh, that low bass voice :D
^^Good song, Willow.
