Probably one of my favorite films of all time.

The second Matrix was actually pretty good. Sort of the reverse of Hype Dissonance or whatever it’s called.

^^I wanna see that! I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

My sister has been gushing about it but I was never very interested.

So I gather you didn’t like (500) Days of Summer. I just might have to go see it for myself to spite you.

Way late to The Lovely Bones discussion, but I felt like I expected much more from Peter Jackson--the emotion was good in some places, the acting was good, but the movie seemed so darn SLOW! And I sat through all four hours of The Return of the King with my eyes fixed on the screen (with an occasional tear dab and a grab at a piece of popcorn...) It felt like it was two hours and fifteen minutes long (which it was...I mean that I was very aware of time passing me by). The plot line wasn't very continuous--I actually like movies like that. A lot of French movies have plots that jump around, but generally the scenes are connected by association of memory...in The Lovely Bones, I felt like it was one event followed by a completely unrelated one. But boy was that creeper creepy! It took me forever to get to sleep on the plane after watching it...

The (500) Days of Summer Chronological Chronology:

Day 1: Tom and Summer meet.

Day 3: McKenzie calls Summer a “superskank”, and Tom is turned off to her.

Day 4: Summer rides the elevator with Tom, and reveals she’s a Smiths fan.

Day 8: Millie’s engagement party, where Summer says she used to be called “Anal Girl”.

Day 11: Tom plays Wii tennis with Rachel, and mentions how he talked to Summer for 20 minutes about “Bananafish”.

Day 22: Tom is put off when Summer says her weekend “was gooood”, and he tells his guy friends that their nonexistent relationship is off.

Day 27: McKenzie tells Tom that Friday is karaoke night, and the whole office is going.

Day 28: Karaoke Night, where Summer sings “Sugar Town” and Tom sings “Here Comes Your Man”, and they have a conversation about love.

Day 31: Tom and Summer make out in the copy room.

Day 34: The big IKEA scene, which eventually leads to Tom having sex with Summer. (Three days after the first kiss? They move fast.)

Day 35 (presumably): The big Hall and Oates dance number. Guess what? It looks much lamer when you realize that whole production happened over a girl Tom was chasing after for less than a month.

Day 45: Summer sings the Knight Rider theme song into her cell phone for Tom.

Day 87: Tom and Summer buy porn at a video store, which leads to them attempting crazy sex in the shower.

Day 95: Tom gives Summer a walking tour of downtown L.A., and introduces Summer to his favorite spot.

Day 109: Tom goes to Summer’s apartment for the first time, with lots of uninteresting conversation about her dreams. (Wait, this is over two months after they first had sex. And he’s only now seeing where she lives? That’s just a little strange.)

Day 118: Tom and Summer are in the car when Tom asks what they are to each other, and gets a vague answer.

Day 154: Tom tells Paul that “It’s official, I’m in love with Summer!”

Day 167: Tom comes up with the “I love us” card.

Day 191: Tom and Summer go to an art exhibit, but then decide to go see Vagiant instead.

Day 259: Tom gets into the fistfight with Mr. Douché at the bar.

Day 260 (presumably): Summer tells Tom about her ex-boyfriends, including the Puma.

Day 266: Tom and Summer yell “Penis!” in the park.

Day 282: Summer and Tom are again at IKEA, but this time Summer is bored.

Day Unknown (presumably takes place on or before 290): Tom and Summer go to see The Graduate, and then Summer breaks up with Tom.

Day 290: Rachel consoles Tom at his apartment as he smashes plates.

Day 303: Tom looks like hell at the office, and gets an email from Summer hoping he’s ready to be friends.

Day 314: Tom goes to the movies alone, and imagines timely parodies of French new wave films and The Seventh Seal.

Day 321: Mr. Vance provides The One and Only Laugh I Had in the Entire Movie.

Day 322: Tom tells no one in particular that he hates everything about Summer, and gets thrown off a bus. And the way this happens in the movie gives the impression that Tom got tired of Summer, not the other way around. Seeing as how she broke up with him a month prior, I don’t see how her “knobby knees” could possibly still be bothering him.

Day 345: Tom’s blind date with St. Alison.

Day 402: Tom and Summer meet up again, and ride the train to Millie’s wedding.

Day 408: The “expectations vs. reality” party, where Summer reveals her engagement.

Day 440: Tom hits the snooze button on his alarm.

Day 441: Tom hits the snooze button on his alarm, and then goes to a convenience store in his robe.

Day 442: Tom finally goes back to work. He’s a total asshole to everybody, and then he quits.

Day 450: Rachel tells Tom he’s only remembering “the good stuff” about being with Summer.

Day 456 to 476: In this montage, Tom interviews for architect jobs, while Summer gets married. Yes, it appears her wedding lasted 20 days.

Day 488: Tom and Summer have a chance meeting in the park, and talk about how Summer is now married.

Day 500: Tom goes to an interview and meets Autumn.

So, it’s Summer and Autumn. Really? Oh well, I still want to see it.

Spy Game. It was alright. Actually it was pretty good, except I really can’t stand Robert Redford and there was this chick in the soundtrack who kept flatting. Drove me mad.

The Lovely Bones. Quite good, but it could have been better, especially after reading Adapt or Die on II. Anyhoo, Mr. Harvey scared the crap out of me, so at least Peter Jackson did something right. ;P

Really? Because I thought my review was quite negative.

Right, which is why I thought the movie could have been better. ;)

A little confusing, but very good regardless.

I watched Dr. Horrible the other day.

What happens when awesome!Neil Patrick Harris and awesome!Joss Whedon come together in harmony.

Where the Wild Things Are. It was sad.

Just got Dr Horrible from the libray. I’m watching it now with better quality than on youtube. Plus, Commentary! The Musical.

Began watching Gattaca. It seems good so far.

I saw Iron Man 2 today. I enjoyed it, but it didn’t blow me out of the water on any level.

Gattaca was great. I still need to see the end to it though.

We’re watching Life is Beautiful in class right now. I’m irritated that some of my classmates can’t stand Guido and hate the movie so far. It’s so wonderful and heartbreaking. I cry every time I watch it.

I hope that once we get to the second half of the movie, they will like it better.

We watched in class and I was gone the day we finished it.

I know, it’s terrible. I know what happens, unfortunately.

It’s the same with my class. In the span of a month, I found out that most of them hate Trainspotting, Daria, Dr. Horrible, and Doctor Who.

I just watched Hercules on the TGV with my friend. I was struck once again by how mythically inaccurate it was.

We watched the beginning of Studio Ghibli’s Castle in the Sky. It was good so far.

American Psycho was good, if completely nuts.

When I saw that, I didn’t know what anime was, and I loved it. I had forgotten about it until it was mentioned on here a couple of months ago. I thought that I didn’t like anime, but how much I remember enjoying that movie makes me want to try some more anime to if I maybe I would like it after all.

I like Up much more than I thought I would. I haven’t really liked many of the newer animated films, so I was pleasantly surprised.

Saw 10 Things I Hate About You on TV and it might now be my new guilty pleasure.

Then, I went to Blockbuster. I wanted to rent Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Pan’s Labyrinth with my five dollars, but apparently, just to rent one movie costs $5.50. I was very pissed.

My sister had money so she bought 500 Days of Summer (which I saw and actually enjoyed), Sherlock Holmes, and Avatar.

It wasn’t perfect, especially the very neat ending, but I enjoyed Heath Ledger way too much.

I saw Batman Begins. I like how it explains basically everything about his character in a thematic way that makes sense.

I would be, but MTV hasn’t actually been relevant since the early ’90s. I mean, do you know anybody who watches it?

I’m looking forward to Avatar 2. My guess is that it’ll be what everyone was expecting the first movie to be.

Also, Ridley Scott’s about to do an Alien prequel. And a 20,000 Leagues under the Sea adaptation. I’m rather excited about both prospects, but I’m afraid that he might die before doing either – he’s 72 now, and he has to do his Monopoly movie first. Let’s hope for the best.

I agree. Memo to writers: Star Trek did it, and they did it better than you. They will continue to do it better than you. You will never be as good as Star Trek. It was probably overused before they did it, and it will not be made fresh and original by you unless you are a literary genius. Your argument is invalid.

Movie editions of things do tend to have more sex and violence, but a TV remake in this day and age would have had more too.

I’m pretty pumped for it, been waiting to see Sharlto Copley in something else.

Leap Year. Cute but overdone. Mostly I liked it for the rural Ireland scenery. Mmmm.

That was a pretty awesome clip. I’m once again optimistic for the Harry Potter movies.

I saw Leap Year as well…I found it very trite. But yeah, I liked the scenery, which was probably the only good part of the movie.
