I take pleasure in the lame. It’s a bad habit.

I watched Frost/Nixon last night, and even though I thought it was going to be boring (and less entertaining than Glee) I found it to be quite enjoyable. :D

    Kick-Ass kicked ass.

In the world of thinking movies I totally missed the first time around, I also saw Memento and Sunshine for the first time this week. I wasn’t too enthused with how either one ended, but the more I thought about them afterward the more I really liked them both.

It was, and I was actually surprised to find myself as unaffected by it as I was. Not really horrible, but not stellar, either. Looks good on Blu-Ray, but beyond that....Anthony Hopkins is gonna kill me.

D: And I envy you. Mmmm, pretties.

I started it, but only watched a bit of it. I need to finish that movie before Jeni kills me. >.>

It may be three days later, but the threat of violence never goes away.

Pan’s Labyrinth is ultra-cool, especially in the original Spanish.

I wasn’t aware you could watch it any other way.

Edit: After fighting in the airport, and much emotional rollercoaster, I decided that I needed pure crack to watch on the plane home — nothing that was going to make me burst into tears at the merest provocation. So of course I chose New Moon. And wow, I did not realise how hilariously bad it was. I did almost give up as I noticed at one point I hadn’t been paying attention for a good five minutes, but stuck with it only to be rewarded with the brilliantly bad acting in Italy.

But I watched part of V for Vendetta later, so that healed the wound.

I was contemplating on making it another all-day marathon, and my brother was all for it, but my mother hid the movies. :’( I’m hoping if I promise to pause on Legolas she might see the light and agree. There is nothing better than Saturday morning with Yugioh for Lulz, pancakes for breakfast at noon, and LotR while it rains outside. NOTHING. My little brother says he’ll spend the day crying if we don’t get to watch it. I have told her I will also.

I finally watched 2001: A Space Odyssey. Funny how I’ve never seen this, since I’m such a geek, but I’ve been consciously avoiding it for as long as I can remember. And now that I’ve finally watched it, I have no words to describe it. It was… um… yeah. Wow. WTF.

  7.

Really, the only part worth watching is the 20-minute segment with the HAL 9000 deactivating the life support and getting turned off. Otherwise, it’s the dullest, most pretentious movie that I’ve ever seen.

Hey, at least the special effects are good.

  8.
@ arska: How did that work out for you? My mother would have probably let me cry. But your idea of a Saturday morning makes me think that you are the coolest person ever. :)

@Miel: My dad has spent years trying to convince me to watch that movie. I never wanted to (the cover looks boring, shallow as that may seem...) Now I really, REALLY don't want to.

I got The Lovely Bones from fye--I have to wait to get back to Paris to watch it, because I promised my dad. Fathers can be so childish sometimes.

Yeah, most of 2001 was really dull, but for some reason I couldn’t stop watching. I think I went through 8 cups of tea trying to stay awake and keep from going stir-crazy. 2001 is something that I think everyone needs to experience once in their lives. And after that, never, ever, ever again.

  9.
Hehe, that sounds rather painful. And I can't imagine how much I would have to pee after 8 cups of tea. (Sorry if that's too much info!)

My mother was scandalized by the name, while RVL claimed that the title was kick ass (not in so many words, but that's just me trying to be punny!) My mother blamed it on her no-good middle school.

I failed, and cried miserably. But I still got Yugioh and pancakes. My day brightened considerably when I heard we were finally going to see Avatar and Astroboy.

Needless to say, Avatar was good- to an extent, and Astroboy was entertaining.

I’m starting three articles on Avatar.

  13.

I saw about half of Watchmen. The pacing was too slow, and I didn’t like some of the slo-mo, but I did like the visual style a lot in general. I think it kind of sags as a movie under its own weight, as it were. I’m going to finish it tomorrow, probably, but right now I’d probably give it a B.

(I have read the graphic novel and have a tremendous amount of respect for it, by the way.)

Namely that Pandora is a lush, tropical, decidedly ancient moon orbiting a gas giant. Pretty much like this place:
  17.

Well, if you want to put it that way, it resembles Endor much more closely. Especially given the whole “furry natives stave off well-equipped human outsiders” thing. I don’t think that it was a deliberate homage, though.

I find it funny that sci-fi writers take the whole idea of a “jungle moon” seriously at all. The distance from the sun would change far too drastically for any life to be possible, barring extremophile bacteria.

    The official synopsis for Inception:

Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan directs an international cast in an original sci-fi actioner that travels around the globe and into the intimate and infinite world of dreams. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb’s rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible-inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming. This summer, your mind is the scene of the crime.
