Excited? I am, I’m starting at midnight. I’m really excited to see what creative ideas we can all whip together. Let’s get to 50,000 all together now.

Okay, done trying to be peppy. I’m sure Chris Baty has done a better job of that already. Although let me tell you, the NaNoWriMo site is slow as a crippled snail.

Totally stayed up for midnight just for this!

I still have another hour to wait, boohoo. I guess I can write a guide about how to post the writing in the meantime.

  3. Virgil on 1 November 2008, 00:34 said:

Yeah, I’m waiting up too. Watching Prison Break to pass the time.

  4. Hedwig Widrig on 1 November 2008, 00:55 said:

Yeah, about that, where do we post our daily progress once we’ve got it? Maybe I haven’t looked hard enough, but it’s eluding me.

I’m up to 357 words and it’s only slightly harder than I was expecting so far.

  5. SlyShy on 1 November 2008, 01:11 said:

Oh, you’ll just create a new post in the NaNoWriMo section, and there will be a category for your posts. I’ll demonstrate once I finish my portion. ;)

Amen to the crippled snail… I don’t know how I’m ever going to get the server to log any words at that rate! But I started last night at midnight! And I’m gonna keep working! Woohooo! Let the fun begin.

    1) My site keeps saying the links are broken. Its ragging on my nerves. Has anyone else had this problem?
    2) I have decided to establish a web site for my story itself; it’s accesible at www.freewebs.com/poleandrobe
I do hope the links work.
    3) My Word Count Validator isn’t working either. I keep trying to refresh the page but it’s not working.
    4) Other that that, hooray for Nano.

Gads, I haven’t even started! (I stayed up late last night at a Halloween bash…)

  9. Snow White Queen on 1 November 2008, 13:02 said:

How often are we going to post on here?

  10. SlyShy on 1 November 2008, 13:02 said:

I was going to do once daily. That said, I still need 800 words. :P

  11. Snow White Queen on 1 November 2008, 14:03 said:

    Hmmm…ok sounds good.

After all, posting once a week and forcing everyone to read 21 pages of newbie fantasy in one sitting is a little much to ask.

  12. Carcinos on 1 November 2008, 15:55 said:

I had to sleep- my writing’s already pretty off, and being tired as hell would only make things worse. I figure if I can produce 2000 words a day, I’ll be good.

  13. Snow White Queen on 1 November 2008, 19:26 said:

I finished my first 1,940 words!

I’m so excited, and I’m really eager to get it up for critique.

Hey, Slyshy, do I just post it up in the NaNoWriMo section here, or are you going to make up separate categories for each of us within the NaNo section?

Because I think I remember that you mentioned doing something like that….

  14. Virgil on 1 November 2008, 19:54 said:

When you post it, check off your section on the categories section. If you can’t do it, I can fix it for you.

  15. Snow White Queen on 1 November 2008, 20:01 said:

    Ok thanks Virgil!

    Will be posting momentarily…

  16. Carcinos on 1 November 2008, 21:38 said:

How do I log in to post?

Thanks! Day 1 posted (after a gross misfire with formatting, now fixed.) It’s turning out a bit darker than I’d planned- and it would be a lot darker if I didn’t have a plot device in place.

The NaNoWriMo site died on me when I was about halfway through writing about myself, so…. Whatever. But I’m over 2000, so I’m happy. ^^

  20. Snow White Queen on 1 November 2008, 22:26 said:

I’m going to try the site again…I haven’t posted today, even though I’ve exceeded quota.

  21. Snow White Queen on 2 November 2008, 00:55 said:

It won’t let me update my word count! :(

  22. Hedwig Widrig on 2 November 2008, 00:58 said:

Type in your word count from MS Word in the word count box, then press “submit”. The validator isn’t working yet.

  23. Snow White Queen on 2 November 2008, 01:06 said:

Eh, I’ll just try again tomorrow…I’m fed up with having to refresh the page every time it goes to the ‘cannot find server’ page.

  24. SlyShy on 2 November 2008, 16:32 said:

Okay, so I finally got it so that the NaNoWriMo updates show up where they ought to—in the NaNoWriMo tab. That way people who are still writing articles aren’t pushed off by our novel writing antics.

No, not quite snail. Snails can get pretty zippy, even when they’re crippled (please do not rip their eyestalks or shells or feet off).

Let’s call it slow like a jellyfish.

  26. Snow White Queen on 2 November 2008, 18:38 said:

I’ve given up on the site.

I’ll do a super-mega update in a week, maybe, if it decides to speed up then.

Here’s how you can find out your word count:

    1) under Microsoft Word (where your story is typed up) and find “Tools”.
    2) Click on “Word Count…” which is halfway down the menu.
    3) You will be able to see your results there. Then, remember that number and go onto Nanowrimo.
    4) Click on “My Nanowrimo” and then “Edit Novel Info”
    5) At the top of the page, YOu’ll see a box that says
    Word Count:
followed by a box where you can enter a number.
    6) Type in your number.

    -or –

You can use the alternate method, which is going to an online word counter and then entering the number there.

Ok, so i haven’t been posting anything so far, but I have a lot written! I’m up to 7,430, and still counting.
Do you think I could just post a link to my website for my novel? I’m doing a lot of copying/pasting for the book, and my internet’s getting a little slow. The full novel (well, what it is so far) is posted by chapter at www.freewebs.com/liegic. Check it out! so far only 12 people have visited…
    Thanks! Happy NaNoing!

  30. Rand on 8 November 2008, 18:00 said:

Is there a “save” button or “post entry” button or anything once you’ve pasted your novel into a thread?
    I can’t find it.

    Wait, for sure.

Sly you need to reset the time stamps on the comments, it’s all an hour forward because of non-Daylight Savings Time. Unless my clocks are wrong.

Ooh, right, thanks. I was expecting it to do that automagically.
