I’ll agree with your agreement! It is very easy to read and find things… not sure if the forum style would work for a larger forum, but at the very least the colors and fonts look very nice. Easy on the eyes, and all.

I’m liking the C.S. Lewis quote on the main site.

As far as how nice this forum is… I agree entirely. I’ve been to many where there are so many responses to specific comments that keep branching off that I can’t figure out who is saying what and why. I like the simple straightforward organization we have here.

  2.

I love the way it’s done, too, especially how you can see all the latest topics at a glance on one page instead of having to trawl through every single category to see if somebody’s said something new.

  3.

Hey, every time I log into my account, it says I have a new message on my wall. But then I go to my wall…no new message. It’s not a big deal, but it’s a bit strange. Any thoughts?

  4.

My account’s been like that for months now. I think Sly or someone said that it was some kind of glitch?

  5.

Ohhh, OK. It’s not that big a deal…I guess I’m just used to the site running so smoothly :)

No, I think it happens when someone edits a comment on your wall. You may not always see it because it buried behind other comments.

  6.

Wow, people edit my comments a lot, in that case.

I’m noticing more and more annoying spam comments on articles, such as on this one:

    Maradonia 21

    (last four comments)

I’m not necessarily advocating that we force people to enter CAPTCHAs before they post a comment (God knows I hate captchas), but we might want to consider something. As Impish grows more popular, we’re only going to attract more annoying spambots.

I won’t object to a captcha. I already have to type out my screen name and email and then click ‘preview’ every time I want to comment, one more field won’t make a difference.

Does anyone else have a problem with being logged out? As far as I can tell, the forum ‘times out’ after a while. A couple of times now I’ve been in the middle of a comment, clicked ‘post’ and lost it all because I timed out in the middle of writing it.

  10.

That’s never happened to me, but I think it happens to other people. I only seem to be logged out if someone writes on my wall when I’m not on the site. Then when I come back, I have to log back in. And there are just random times, but I never get logged out while I’m actually on the site.

Alas, I cannot join in on the positive commenting, delurking solely to inform you all that the spammers left a not-so-nice present for us that has yet to be dealt with.

Basically, if you’ve ever filled in your email field in one of your comments on an article, your email may have been hijacked to send spam. It’s happened to my email, and I’m currently being flooded with confused emails from folks not on my contacts list (not to mention the odd questions IRL).

I’ve changed my password, but it’s still too soon to tell if the spam is still using my address.

I think maybe disabling the email field for the moment would be a good idea.

That’s not really possible. They would still need access with a password, it sounds like you either have a keylogger on your PC or you’ve been phished. :/

It’s not that you get spam; it’s that spammers are using your email address to send out spam, or make it look like you sent it.

That’s not really possible. They would still need access with a password, it sounds like you either have a keylogger on your PC or you’ve been phished. :/

Keylogger = none. As for phishing, possible, except I have no record of ever sending the spam, and as far as I can tell, it’s only using my email address as a mask to hide it’s own.

EDIT1: The reason why I’m bringing it up here is because I have multiple email addresses for different sites. The one associated with II is the one that was affected; all my others are fine.

EDIT2: I believe what happened was that my email address was spoofed. More info can be found on it here: http://www.mailsbroadcast.com/email.broadcast.faq/46.email.spoofing.htm

Basically, a spammer got a hold of my email address and is using it as a mask to hide their own.

Feel free to stop using your email addresses, because there really isn’t any reason to. However, email spoofing isn’t exactly a dangerous thing. But, if your contacts are getting sent emails, then that likely means your account was hacked, because the hackers have access to your contacts, which they wouldn’t have if they were only spoofing.

So, you should probably change your password to something harder to crack.

Quotes from Sly from the Facebook page:

Argh, the hosting company disabled the database because it was drawing too much on their resources. This weekend I’m going to transfer the server to my personal server and hopefully get it running again without dataloss.

This is going to take an unacceptably long time to fix, because I have to get a current dump off the server from Pair. Lesson learned: always roll your own server.

The legal drinking ought to be 13. Countries like Germany that have it as such have much lower rates of alcoholism, because children learn at a young age that drinking just isn’t that big of a deal.

Edit: Okay, so it is 16 in Germany. But still, not 21.

  20.

I think it’s 18 in India (don’t quote me) but very loosely enforced.

  21.

I think it should be 18 in the US (16 would be okay too). If you’re an “adult,” why shouldn’t you be allowed to drink? That’s just stupid. You can’t get into casinos either if your under 21 (I think you can get into Indian casinos, but I’ve never been to one of those, so I’m not sure).

13 would be too young though, in my opinion, for drinking. I think your body should be pretty much done growing first.

I think it should be between 18 and 25. Alcohol severely impacts a growing young person’s body and mind, and regular consumption by a person under the age of about 25 can cause a lifetime of mental instability and physical maldevelopment leading to organ failure, decreased intelligence and mental capacity, various long-term mental disorders, and even diabetes and obesity. Anyway, this is allk completely adside from the fact that Slyshy is awesome, Impishidea is awesomer, and you don’t need to be drunk to enjoy the antics of the Marquis.

Now if I just had some time I would really like to go back and give II a revamp. 26.

    ... me too

  27.

Also, just for more pressure, I think it’d be really interesting to have a feature on the forums where you can see the number/list of ‘active’ members (ie defined as those who’ve posted within the last 1-2 months).

    •
      CommentAuthorPuppet
    • CommentTimeJul 19th 2011

I don’t really see the point of such a feature myself, Steph. If it’s to find out who’s “inactive” then by your definitions they won’t appear on the list anyway. But if you really want to see when “member x” was last active you could just look at their profile page. I think it’s fairly obvious who’s active and who isn’t on ImpishIdea. If people are leaving chances are they’ll make a post in the “The I’m Leaving, Hold My Mail Thread,” if they’re still active and posting then, well, you’ll see their posts.

But on that note… One thing I think SlyShy should implement when he has the time is a button linking back to the main site. Maybe placed right next to the “Discussions” button? For example:

Q: The submit button on the main site is broken. How do I submit an article?
A: Email it directly to SlyShy at mkbunday@gmail.com.

If I remember, it was taken down because of massive amounts of spam (and, I assume, articles that are nothing but the word ‘dicks’ copy-pasted a thousand times), so only serious article-writers can access it.
