blushes and now I can’t add tags to it. I knew there was something I forgot. So sorry, guys.
This is actually feedback…on my wall, it says there are new posts but I can’t see them.
Guh, it might be a glitch. It did that to me a while back, insisting there were new posts, but there weren’t. :/ Then one day, it disappeared.
Oh, and just so everyone knows, I’m thinking of knocking out some articles this summer. Between rounds of furious coding. <_<
Puppet, the link you posted is leading to an error.
That’s because he’s being a teenager. Ignore it. :D
Puppet, use this newfound power for good and not evil.
Clever, Puppet. :P
I take it none of you found my secret message, no?
I take it none of you found my secret message, no?
What secret message? Anybody can read that address.
But, more to my point. This really isn’t a “Post links to new article thread!” This is the Feedback Thread.
Good grief, Feedback is IMPORTANT. Yeah.
YEAH.
I take it none of you found my secret message, no?
I did. But only because of my super mod (sometimes nosy) SKILLZ.
:D
Oops. I just noticed that now.
I feel stoopid.
Question: why does “Submit” not work?
Because Sly had been getting a huge amount of spam through it.
Ahh. So how is everyone getting their articles in, then?
Email it to him. Look back on the previous pages, this has been discussed several times before.
Maybe we need a ‘submission guide’ on the submit page instead?
“Hey Spammers, instead of just having a button here that will email us your submission, we’ll just give you our direct email address to make it even easier for you.”
Like that?
Clicking a button and filling a box is a lot different to copying and pasting an email address, and the lack of a hotlink will put off 90% of spammers, at least.
I no longer have a website to give reviews to, and I want an excuse to watch Eclipse besides “generic lulz”, so is it okay with everybody if I end up doing an article for it?
I think it would be fine. I, personally, think it would be great if we got multiple opinions and articles on it, instead of just one with one person’s opinion.
“Hey Spammers, instead of just having a button here that will email us your submission, we’ll just give you our direct email address to make it even easier for you.”
Like that?
Yes, exactly like that. I’m pretty sure the II website has Sly’s email address on it anyway.
I would love it if many people wrote Eclipse reviews. No problem whatsoever. In fact, I think we should organize a blitz of activity during Eclipse mania.
I’m going Wednesday evening… I’ll try to take notes.
I’m kinda tempted to go with a friend now. She actually likes the books, so no inappropriate sniggering.
I just want to go to the movies with someone so that I don’t feel lonely anymore.
Aww, poor Jeni.
Actually I hate going to the movies with people, they do things like TALK and EAT and BREATHE.
I find attempting to strangle friends is an awkward point in our friendship.
But the only problem with Eclipse is that I actually forgot I was watching New Moon for a good five minutes. How am I going to last in a cinema?
See, I’m hoping to see Eclipse just to skiv money from The Last Airbender. I won’t see the midnight premiere or anything, though.
I’ve actually still not seen New Moon. Sad, isn’t it? Lord Snow and I will probably be doing so sometime soon.
I haven’t seen New Moon yet either. Ah well.
I haven’t seen either New Moon or Twilight. And I don’t feel bad about that at all.
I haven’t seen New Moon either. The only reason I ever wanted to (other than for sporkage) was because shirtless Taylor Lautner, but honestly… that’s just not a good enough reason.
I got about halfway through Twilight. didn’t bother finishing and I haven’t watched New Moon, either.
I watched them. They were epic lulz.
I watched an hour of Twilight, which is the time they took to have Bella figure out Edward was a vampire. Which was okay, except this was a fact that was established ON THE BACK COVER of the freakin’ book.
But yeah, I agree with arska. What I did see had epic lulz.
I saw Twilight on DVD (actually, I stayed out of the room for most of it, since it disgusted me), and I saw New Moon with my sibs, which brought epic lulz.
Yes, Sly. Yes we will. Also, I probably should get the EWW’s back up and running soon, shouldn’t I?
Also, I probably should get the EWW’s back up and running soon, shouldn’t I?
YES.
XD Yeah, that only seems fair.
How does one delete a spam comment? Can only Sly do that? Got a twi-tarded comment on my Eclipse review that I’d like to remove for profanity/spamminess.
...Why would you want to delete that beautiful, beautiful gem?
... for the sake of sanity/posterity?
...Well, it’s your choice. But it isn’t even that bad compared to some we’ve gotten, and it doesn’t insult any II members. I, personally, would keep it for the lulz. xD
I usually like keeping dumb comments around, assuming they aren’t flinging around racial slurs or something, if only to showcase the kind of insipid stupidity the books we criticize inspire.
Gotcha. It shall be left as a memorial to stupidity.
Kind of a random comment, but I’m currently on an iPod touch and wanted to say how surprisingly nice the site looks on its tiny tiny screen. The navigation is difficult to see/use, but the articles and comments are readable without zooming in. The forum’s not as clear but still isn’t half as bad as some sites I’ve been to. Is that just a lucky side-effect or did you do it on purpose, Sly?
I find it easier to browse the forum holding the iTouch horizontally, as I’m sure you’ve worked out, but just in case…
Could we have an FAQ post? The biggest questions around here seem to be ‘how do I use Textile’ and ‘why won’t the submit form work’. If we had an FAQ section, we could just direct people to it.
Whilst the textile one isn’t a bad idea, I can’t help but think that people should take a little initiative and click the Help link available.
Maybe that’s what the textile FAQ can consist of, ho ho ho.
There’s a bunch of spam on the main site.
There is, I’ve been meaning to poke Elanor into doing something about it. Will get around to that now. Thanks. :)
The “Let’s Whine About School” thread is messing up for me. Its been having some problems for quite a while, it wouldn’t go to the bottom of the page to see the latest post like other threads did. And now this:
Anybody else having problems?
This has been happening to me in Small Victories thread for a considerable amount of time now.
Everything seems to be working fine for me.
Ahh, I think it’s something to do with post counting in the thread. If I log out, that topic finishes on Page 12, the reason your screenshot looks like that, Puppet, is because there is no Page 13 yet (where your url is pointing).
No idea why it’s miscounting, though, I’m afraid. :[
Hmm, I tried editing a few posts I had whispered to other people so that they were public, but that still didn’t fix it.
Looks fine for me, although it did report two unread replies, even though my post was still the last one. Probably just your now-public posts.
Every so often that happens to me in the General Twilight Thread and I have to refresh the page. When I do that, Kaspersky Internet Security blocks me from viewing the page.
Uh, isn’t the “Who’s Online” panel supposed to say “Phantom User” when someone hides themselves instead of “Hide my username from the ‘Who’s Online’ panel”?
I have no power…
At the moment he’s kind of busy… Have you tried hiding your username from the who’s online panel?
What I thought happened was that she tried to hide her name, and instead of hiding it, it put that, but I don’t know if that’s what happened or not.
:D Phantom, are you breaking the forum software?! That’s so funny! I hope it can be fixed, though.
LOL @ Phantom
You’ve been stirring up trouble while I was away, haven’t you?
A lot of these problems stem from the performance limitations of my SQL database. Unfortunately, I don’t have a plan for migrating to something more stable currently. Sorry. :-/
Um. Has anybody tried the hyperlinked News link on the main page lately? I assume it should lead to an archive of previous news posts, but all I get is a blank page. I mean, I look at the Page Source and there’s clearly meant to be a list of hyperlinks and such, but the page appears to be blank. Nothing to highlight, so it’s not a colour/contrast issue, there’s simply nothing there.
Yeah… I noticed that, too. It used to work.
I saw that too, a while back. I remember it working before too.
This is what the threads look like now:
Huh.. That happened a while back, too. I copy and pasted a quote from Wikipedia and for some reason it screwed up all the threads to look like that. Don’t know why it’s doing it there, though.
It’s fixed now. I don’t know what happened to fix it.
There is a CRAZY amount of spam comments on the site right now. Considering the way comments work here, I guess there’s not much that can be done about it, and it’s all on older articles so it’s out of the way, but… yeah. Why are there so many all of a sudden?
Hey, is it possible to have a section where we post writing we want to show other people, not necessarily to critique, but just to be like, “hay, look wut i did :D” but with better spelling? Such as a category for where Willow’s excerpts from her senior thesis can go (atm they’re in the Critique Wanted section), and Rocky’s sci-fi serial if it ever gets posted—and Nate’s Nagasaki Moon thread, which is currently in the Writing section.
Isn’t that kind of what the Writing category is for, though? Although I guess that one’s more about threads about writing, not just pieces of writing.
Impish Writing, perhaps? I know that was originally for the critiquing thing, but people could post their pieces there too.
Although I guess that one’s more about threads about writing, not just pieces of writing.
Yeah, I reckon it’d get too confusing if we have both types in there…
And I guess the Impish Writing thing depends on whether or not the people who were doing it are still doing it…
I was wondering how it is decided which articles are posted and when. I don’t have anything pending right now, but I check Text Pattern every now and then just see what’s there. Well, I’ve noticed that certain kinds of articles or articles by certain people are consistently posted right after they are submitted to be live, while others are left pending for days or even weeks. Also, some articles are left up for weeks, even when new articles are pending, while others aren’t even up for twenty-four hours. I thought that articles were posted in a first come first serve sort of way unless there was a special one for a particular event, but there have been articles that were just submitted that are posted before articles that have been pending for days (they aren’t meant for a specific occasion/day either). There are even some articles that have been pending since 2009 (I’m guessing there is a reason that they are still pending).
So, basically, I’m wondering if certain types of articles or certain authors are given priority, or if there are certain authors/articles that need to be proofread and are therefore posted later than those articles that do not need to be proofread for whatever reason. I’m not wanting names or anything; I’m just wondering if this is a factor or not. I know that the admins are busy, so I don’t fault them for not always posting things promptly, but I’ve just noticed that certain authors/articles are posted a lot more promptly than others on a fairly consistent basis. I wouldn’t be saying anything if I saw equal delays for all types of articles/authors.
Also, Nate has several articles that he titled as copies that were accidental, and he asks for them to be deleted.
This post is not meant to be hostile/whiny. I did my best to write it in a way that didn’t come off as either of those things.
Short answer: laziness and inattentiveness.
Send me or Elanor (hah, totally volunteering her) a message when you submit an article. I’ll catch up with the ones you mention after Christmas, NP. :3
^^All right. Thanks. I figured that was probably all it was.
Why is our tagline still “nanowrimo fever”? It’s december…
Short answer: laziness and inattentiveness.
This probably answers that question too, but I’ve been thinking the same thing, Inspector.
Basically, college has put an end to my life as I knew it, and unfortunately that means I only have time for ImpishIdea between rounds of feverish cramming. I am, however, considering dropping out, so that’s something to look forward to (I kid).
^^ Yeah, college does kind of murder free time.
What’s the story behind the new banner on the main site? I’m just curious, because I don’t use Twitter.
Maybe that everything is announced on Twitter instead of in the news, or that Twitter encourages chatspeak, which is detrimental to writing in general. I don’t use Twitter either, soit should be something else.
This is good feedback:
This forum looks so much nicer than most forums I run across when I’m searching for random stuff. They’re all hard to read and cluttered and covered with signatures and flashing pictures and glitter. At the very least, they have this look where the actual posts are in a boxy thing that’s just there in front of the website background.
Basically, this forum is really nice looking and doesn’t offend my eyes, so good job to SlyShy.
Sly’s really good with design and typography, I completely agree. It combines aesthetic with functionality in a really effective way.
