I’m seriously surprised no one has brought this one up before. (Or have I finally gone blind?)

Anyway, what are your opinions on David Eddings?

Personally I think he was an excellent writer. I know him chiefly through his Belgariad, Mallorean and Elenium series. These books were not especially original, but his story telling method did somewhat breath some life into them. The plots of the three series of his that I read were highly character driven. This was one of his main areas of strength. His characters’ personalities were strong, realistic and entertaining. The humour in his novels often made me fall into fits of giggles. One thing that distinguishes him from Young Master Paolini (apart from his superior storytelling style) was that he did not take his writing too seriously. He even admitted that he was playing around with fantasy clichés for fun.

    A vous.
