    It sounds rather far-fetched, if you ask me. Pretty much all of the evidence of plagiarism they bring up is pretty ridiculous. A wedding? Sex on the beach? Turning into a vampire and being called “love” by one’s husband? There’s no way this guy’s going to be taken seriously.

    I couldn’t finish the side-by-side comparison since both were poorly written to the point of boring me. She’s supposedly not requesting any money in the suit, only to stop production of BD and recall all unsold copies. I sympathize with her noble goal even if it isn’t true.

    I have to agree with Spanman that the evidence provided for the alleged plagiarism is not especially damning. In fact, I bet the author filing the lawsuit seeks only attention and a lot of money by attacking a person as well-known as Smeyer.

    Ok, if that was me, I’d take it up to a certain point, insisting plagiarism, and then just stand up and tell everyone the real reason.

    And watch the chaos.

    That’s why I sympathize with her even if she doesn’t have much of a case. There are a suspicious amount of similarities, too, even if the similarities themselves aren’t similar enough from a legal standpoint for the accusation to hold water.

    Kitty told me the Breaking Dawn movie was being put on hold as a result of the lawsuit… so I’m all in favor of it. ;-)

    It’s hilarious when in one sentence, they make a piece of fecal matter seem like a moderately good story. ““Breaking Dawn,” which came out in 2008, is the fourth book in the series of novels about a teenager, Bella Swan, caught in a forbidden romance with vampire Edward Cullen.”
    But this isn’t the first person to accuse SMeyer. They didn’t say anything when Twilight first got released, but now that it’s a huge success with movie deals and everything, the other people want a piece of the pie.

    @Dia: Actually in Gilmore Girls, Lane does it, and then later complains how horrible it was. So yeah.

    Yes, Kristen Stewart is not particularly lively, but I guess she is pretty.

    I’ll admit to having some kind of weird affection for Kristen Stewart despite not seeing Twilight. She’s reasonably pretty, and I just find husky voices appealing.

    I thought that the plagarizing passages things sounded interesting until I read that part. That just sounds like, “Your book is kind of like my book. That’s impossible unless you stole it. OMG!!! You stole my book!!!”

    Bella’s not really supposed to be plain. The whole point is that Bella thinks of herself as this Gorgon, and Edward see her for who she truly is, a dazzling swan… yeah, Edward and the rest of the male population of Forks.

    There’s a really soppy conversation at the wedding scene where Bella doesn’t want to see herself in a mirror on her wedding day, and Edward is all “When will you see yourself as the gorgeous goddess of beauty you are?”

    Then she turns into a vampire and looks exactly the same. But with sparkles.
