Okay, everybody, we’re going to play a little game. I saw this done before on Anti-Shurtugal before it renovated. but I’m going to do it a little differently. Basically, I’m going to go over a plot for a story (in a block quote for better visibility), and I’ll wait for some of you to guess in the comments what story it is before editing this post to reveal the answer. I’m mostly doing this because I recently noticed something, and thought I’d try to point it out. So without further ado, let’s get this show on the road!

There’s a new kid in school, and while settling in doesn’t take too much in the way of effort, there is one classmate who is acting…strangely. Said student gets uncomfortable when around New Kid, tries to keep some distance from NK, tells NK to stay away and even runs away a few times when NK approaches or tries to talk.
New Kid is concerned about this, and after a few misunderstandings and wild guesses (and some research on New Kid’s part) the truth comes out; the other student is a vampire! But unlike the traditional vampire, this bloodsucker doesn’t seem to need to drink human blood, and can walk in the sunlight without burning.
However, some special quality of New Kid causes an instinctive reaction in Vampire, which is why Vampire had been running away from NK in the beginning of the story. They manage to find ways around this, and from here, a strange kind of relationship forms (though this does not stop the suggestions that NK should stay away). New Kid even gets to meet Vampire’s family, who are mostly accepting of the two being together, with some exceptions.
But then some evil vampires show up! Near the end of the story, they kidnap one of the two through deception, but fortunately said character is rescued by the other character with some help from the home team family of vampires, leading to the (mostly) happy ending.

Okay, hopefully I haven’t made that too vague… So what story do you think I’m telling the plot of? I’ll edit this sometime in the next couple of days with the answer and possibly a list of guesses from the comments.

So what was it really? Well, Dan Locke got it right (on his first guess, no less)! Congratulations, Dan!

Karin (titled Chibi Vampire in the US version of the manga, for some reason…) is a romantic comedy about Karin Maaka, an…unusual vampire (more on this in a moment), and Kenta Usui, her classmate/acquaintance/friend/boyfriend. So to be fair, let’s go over the plot of the series again, and I’ll fill in the necessary information.

New Kid Kenta even gets to meet Vampire’s Karin’s family (when her father kidnaps him), who are mostly accepting of the two being together, with some exceptions. Karin’s father, in particular, is very protective of his daughter, and worries about what Kenta will do to her when they’re alone.
But then some evil vampires show up! Near the end of the story, they kidnap one of the two Karin through deception, but fortunately said character she is rescued by the other character Kenta with some help from the home team family of vampires Maakas/Markers, leading to the (mostly) happy ending which I’m not spoiling unless I get the okay from everybody.

And you guys probably figured it out by now, but I was comparing the plot to Twilight (OF COURSE!). It was hard to keep from giving away that it wasn’t when the main character and love interest are switched! And yet (in my opinion, of course) it’s done better.

And for those of you curious about the manga, there are translated scans here. They’re not quiiiite the same as the official translations in the bookstores, though, and some pages are missing, so I’d recommend the bookstore in the long term.

Yeah, exactly! It’s what I was imagining, but I was too lazy to write it down. I think a separate person would have to be the bank, though. That way, no cheating (though it’s hard to do when you have it all written down).
