If you have not heard of Flight of the Conchords (Formerly New Zealand’s fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo), you will love them forever.

He was a random elf in that Council of Elrond scene in FotR, and in RotK, he’s the one tugging at Arwen’s horse’s reins right after she sees her son Eldarion with Aragorn and rides back off towards Rivendell.

Figwit had a whole section dedicated to himself on the LotR tour I did…

  7.

Um, whoever was talking about Being Human earlier, is it cancelled? There doesn’t seem to be many episodes. Or are seasons just shorter in the UK?

  8.
UK often has seasons of 6 eps so their shows dont get too stale. The Office UK has like 2 or 3 seasons of 6 eps each, while The Office US has like 5 seasons of 20 eps each (well the first season was short I think..)
  9.

Okay, so that’s normal then. I just found part of the pilot on YouTube and was going to watch it, but I didn’t want to like it if it only had six episodes and nothing was ever explained. Would this air on the BBC channel in the US?

  10.
Well the Pilot has nothing to do with the canon of the actual series. It has different actors. Though I don't watch the show but I think you should give it a chance. Short seasons doesn't mean things won't be explained. And I don't know if it would air on BBC in the US.
  11.

Short seasons doesn’t mean things won’t be explained.

I just meant that in the US, if the season is only six episodes long, it means that it got canceled really early and probably has a lot of loose ends. I didn’t know how the BBC did things. The pilot has different actors? That’s strange. Is it still good? The pilot, I mean.

    EDIT:
I just found that the first season is airing on BBC America on Saturdays now. It also airs on other days at random times.

  12.

For those who are wondering, Figwit actually got a speaking part in Return of the King. He’s the one who’s escorting Arwen from Rivendell, and then Arwen ‘sees’ her future with Aragorn. Figwit asks her to move along there, missy, and she bolts.

    So yeah.

    Personally, I don’t think he’s that hot.

    But yeah.

  13.

I rather like Being Human. I’ve watched through episode four.

What are some good TV shows that you guys like? I need some more.

I regularly watch Rescue Me, Castle, Warehouse 13, Chuck, The Simpsons, Dollhouse, Burn Notice, 30 Rock.. a few others.

I just had a How I Met Your Mother binge and watched all four seasons over the course of just a few days. Now I can’t wait for season 5.

Castle starts Nathan Fillion (Mal from Serenity, the reason I began watching), where he’s a mystery novel author who helps the police solve crimes. Its fairly funny with Fillion in it.

Yeah. I usually don’t go for the crimes and mystery, but its way more believable than the tripe like CSI.

  17.

I’ve never watched CSI. I don’t plan too ever watch it or its many many spin-offs. I don’t believe in spin-offs before the original goes off the air anyway.

Haha, that sounds even more interesting.

Most of the TV shows I really like are off the air, and most of those ended before their time. Everything now seems to be reality shows, cop shows, hospital shows, really un-funny sitcoms, and spin-offs of all of the above.

No. Accounts are free, and you can get one to subscribe to shows so you get a little alert when a new one comes in.

  21.

Cool. I will look into it more and maybe find some good shows. I did see that Dead Like Me was on there when I was looking up SciFi shows. I will have to look at what else they have.

  22.

I don’t really understand how people enjoy the basic police procedurals. Dexter is awesome and The Closer is pretty good, but all the others seem far too mundane.

I can't watch stuff on Hulu because I'm not an American :( Though it knows where you are from by something in your computer so if you just buy an American computer it'll think you are in America, I think...

I dont need Hulu though cos I prefer to download than stream so I get my shows ILLEGALLY via torrents!!

There are no good shows airing at the moment, though there's probably lots of good ones I never gave a chance. But some of the ones I do like, like Supernatural, Dexter, 30 Rock and The Big Bang Theory are starting again in September.

@ Dr Alligator, I'm not that much of a how I met your mother fan, but I really want to know who the damn mother is already!! I really wanted it to be Sarah Chalke's character but I knew it wouldn't be. I probably should like the show more though because it seems pretty similar to scrubs.

@ sansafro, yeah generic cop shows suck ass. I like there to be something else that makes it unique and cool, like Dexter, Monk, Medium, maybe Numb3rs.
  23.

    Dexter is awesome

I’m going to try to watch that more this season. His voiceover is kind of funny at times. I like voice overs when they are done well.

Hulu knows if you’re in the States by your IP address, or where you connect to the ‘net from.

  24.

Hulu will probably expand outside the US eventually (I’m guessing).

No. It depends on where you connect from the internet. That’s probably to do with the playback code on DVD’s and games, etc.

  26.

I’m going to try to watch that more this season. His voiceover is kind of funny at times. I like voice overs when they are done well.

Yeah, you get used to it. It’s interesting to watch his narration get less reliable as the show progresses, too.

  27.

    @sansafro
Voiceovers should keep the character’s personality intact. Sometimes the character is shallow and vapid and their voiceover is way too deep and introspective. Sometimes voiceovers are just there to sound cool. I like when they are an extension of the character and more a look into their thoughts on a given situation.

  28.

Oh, Dexter’s does absolutely, I’d say. Even as the show progresses and he clearly acts on emotion yet tells you “I don’t feel emotions regarding this,” it shows you something about the character that I don’t think they could really illustrate without the voiceover.

  29.

Good, I like that kind. =)

  30.

I just had a How I Met Your Mother binge and watched all four seasons over the course of just a few days. Now I can’t wait for season 5.

I really like How I Met Your Mother, it’s like a 00’s version of Friends. But what I feel makes it really unique is the antics and character of Barney Stinson. Barney is probably the funniest character I have ever seen in TV, movies and books.

Marshal: What do you do for a living?
    Barney: Please.

But the mystery is half of the fun! It’d get boring if we found out too soon. And there’s a lot of other thingd happening besides Ted’s romances. Anyway, by the season 4 finale we know that Ted’s met his wife, we just don’t know who she is.

Yeah episode 3 is all puking and angst. But it really picks up in the end.

There’s enough undercurrent freaky stuff that keeps things very interesting, past the internal drama. And the backflashes and ground action tie everything nicely.

  39.

Yes. And they are supposed to reveal what Beta is in the first season, so that’s good. It won’t just drag out the “ooooh, mysterious creature” thing forever. I think it has a lot of potential, so I hope the network gives it a fair chance.

Yeah, I read (somwhere) that there are going to reveal something in episode 8 or 9 or something like that. It might not be the main secret, but they do say that we’ll know what Beta is by the end of the season. It’s set up so that if it gets canceled, it works as a mini-series, and if it doesn’t, it can be continued.

How will they pull off a mini series if its cancelled..? Oh well, I’m sure I’ll understand.

The effects are cool, everything has just a touch of future in it.

  41.

Well, the first season (13 episodes) has already been filmed and completed. That would be the mini-series. If it’s not picked up for a second season, then the first will be fine on its own, but they leave it open enough to allow for a second season. I’ve read too much about this show for no apparent reason. I think I just really like the idea, and I want them to do it right.

True Blood Season 1 (not very impressed so far)

It’s a decent show. Like a really improved Twilight.

  45.
Yeah a friend really wants me to watch True Blood but Twilight has ruined vampire romance for me forever, no matter how much better it is. I've never been a big fan of vampires at all anyway.
  46.

My brother has been on my case to watch True Blood, but he thought the Eragon movie was decent, so it’s impossible to tell whether the things he likes are good or not.

  47.
I saw the Eragon movie for the first time a few weeks ago and.... there's just no words to describe it. I guess they couldn't do much with the source material. Some things just can't be converted into a movie, even if that thing is actually very good.
  48.

I just don’t know why anybody would watch it. You could just watch A New Hope and get the same basic idea executed somewhere between three and five hundred times more effectively.
