Just wanted everybody’s views on the following series (cuz i dunno which one i should pursue/read/lalala)
    1. Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan (read till book 2… loved it so far, but i’ve heard soooo much criticism for the later books that my interest is fleeting _ )
    2. Song of Ice and Fire by R.R. MarTIN
    3. The Witcher Series by Andrej Sapwowski [Typo?] (I’ve read the Last Wish… and liked it)

LaLa out Insert bad special effects

    erm patience is a virtue.

I’d help but I haven’t read any of those books.

WoT is good at times but the costume porn, general slow pace and lack of fleshing-out of antagonists can be irritating, ASOIAF is awesomeness incarnate, although I might just have that view because I finished it less than a year ago and can’t bring myself to consider its faults yet, and I haven’t read the third one.

I’ve only read the Witcher books that have been translated to English, but I enjoyed it (except for having to import them from the UK. that sucked).

Unless you’re in for a long hike uphill in the blazing heat, with a little bit of the most pure, clear, delicious water on earth at the top, I would recommend skipping Wheel of Time. A Song of Ice and Fire, on the other hand, I would recommend to anyone age twelve and above, it’s arguably the best sci-fi/fantasy work of the last twenty years. I haven’t read The Wticher, but I want to…

    WoT:
-books 1-3: above average fantasy, get progressively better
-book 4: the high point of the series, an excellent book
-books 5-7: above average, get progressively worse
-books 8-9: the descent into darkness continues
-book 10: the most disappointing fantasy book ever written, not exaggerating
-book 11: back to the level of books 2+6, and is that the light at the end of the tunnel? just one more to go…
    then the author dies
-books 12-14: planned out by dying original author, currently being written by some noob, will be one book divided into three parts so Tor can squeeze every drop they can from their cash cow

    ASoIaF:
books 1-2: amazingly good books, above even book 4 of WoT, IMO
book 3: the best fantasy novel since Lord of the Rings, Moldorm, if you think ASoIaF is awesomeness incarnate, read this book and your mind will be blown
book 4: on the first read, the worst in the series, but the most fun to reread by far

  4.

WoT: Skimmed the first few pages and wasn’t interested. Heard that it got worse as the series went on. Now that the author is dead I likely won’t bother.

ASoIaF: Skimmed the first few pages and wasn’t interested. Dropped some money on the book and after slogging through the terminally boring beginning, found it to be quite good (some characters and plotlines more so than others; there’s still a lot of filler and I keep wanting to yell “STFU AND DIE ALREADY” at some characters).

The Witcher: Skimmed the first few pages of The Last Wish and wasn’t interested. I have feminist objections to the video game, and thus low expectations for his portrayal of females in the books.

@Devin: By “the third one” I meant “the Witcher”, the third series listed – my mind has already been blown! Sorry for the ambiguity.

The beginning is necessary for character and setting introductions, though.

You also noticed the “diaphanous clothing”? That was an interesting trip to the dictionary… And yes, I agree. I tried reading them a while ago – extremely boring and impossible for me to follow.

Never read Wheel of Time. GRRMs Song of Ice and Fire however, I absolutely adore. A Feast for Crows I have yet to read, but I have to finish some other books I started first. The Witcher series is one of my most favorite fantasy reads. As far as feminist obkections go - it has to be something the game did wrong, I havent noticed anything of the sort in the books. *shrugs* It really is a great series, at least in my opinion

Wheel of Time = Waste of time.

    GRRM = excellent.

Witcher = varies. Short stories are fine. Longer works are not my cup of tea. Too much angst on Geralt’s part. Waah waah everyone hates the magical people waah waah sob sob sob general stupid bitchiness.

XD that has got to be the most hilarious summary of Witcher I ever read. Anywhere. Thank you.
