rubs chin Hmmm…that actually sounds like a pretty interesting idea.
GET LUCKY BY DAFT PUNK OMG
Koda – The Wolf Below
Triple Six Mafia – Underground Vol. 1
Anything by T-Bone Burnett.
“And I’ll slit your hope while you are weeping
And wipe the blood clean with morphine
Be my queen”
‘Montagues and Capulets’- Prokofiev
OOOooOOOOH, THE SWEETEST THING
It’s pretty interesting to hear the evolution of some composers. I was listening to the Dark Knight Rises soundtrack today and I was struck by how many elements Hans Zimmerman took from his work in Modern Warfare 2. It’s really quite interesting to hear all the different variations
I think Hans Zimmer is a hack. I know this is an unpopular opinion to have.
Not really, I’ve heard it a lot.
Yeah, I think he’s a tad overrated (OK, maybe a little more than a tad), and he also gets a lot of undeserved credit and hogs the spotlight on a lot of productions, but while he may not be the messiah of music he does compose some nice tracks.
Black Dahlia by Porcupine Tree on infinite loop. This song is so simple, but really touching for some reason.
M.A.A.D. City by Kendrick Lamar
I feel like almost all Hans Zimmer’s music in the last few years could be mashed up with no one able to tell the difference. Inception is distinct, but his sound/style is very repetitive.
Just got the RWBY soundtrack, and man, I love this music… Jeff Williams is the man.
American Idiot by Green Day
Talk about a blast from the past. I literally haven’t heard some of the songs on the album (aside from the obvious Boulevard of Broken Dreams) for years. It was nostalgic, but also kind of sad. It’s hard to believe how fast time has (seemingly) past.
Man, I had already moved on from Green Day when that album came out. I’ve never even heard it. It was so uncool to like Green Day by that time (it still is, but I like them)
It is still uncool to like Green Day. That has been so for most of my life, at least in Australia.
It’s hard to believe how fast time has (seemingly) past.
11 years has gone so fast, the innocent can never last?
I like Green Day and did not know it was uncool to do so. I guess I’m extra uncool. shrug
American Idiot was my first bona-fide rock album, so I WILL ALWAYS LOVE IT, no matter how uncool it is. I also enjoy the back record, and they put on an awesome live show. I don’t listen to them that often, but it’s always fun when I do.
21st Century Breakdown, however, sucks. :P
^^That one I have not heard. I like American Idiot and Nimrod (mostly because I like “Good Riddance,” which probably makes me lame as well, but I don’t care).
One of the first CDs I ever had was International Superhits. I was 10. My older brothers had a few of their albums before that.
That one I have not heard
It’s the album they released after American Idiot. Maybe it doesn’t SUCK, but I was disappointed compared to its predecessor.
Kanye West – Mercy (RL Grime Salva Remix)
I just found out about Billie Holiday and so far I really enjoy her music.
Not such a big fan of Katatonia’s Viva Emptiness re-release (too busy for me, the original arrangements were perfect), but the new version of ‘Inside the City of Glass’ with added vocals is wonderful.
I know there isn’t even any snow on the ground yet, but when it’s pitch black outside by 5PM then it’s time to put on The Cole Porter Songbook sung by Ella Fitzgerald.
I keep listening to Thrift Shop and Timber lately. I don’t mind the first one so much, but the second one has Kesha in it (or Ke$ha, whatever) and that disturbs me.
@Puppet – my rule is that I won’t listen to Christmas music until Thanksgiving… but you better believe I’ll be breaking out the Mannheim Steamroller tomorrow morning. :)
Reading the lyrics to Timber aloud makes me both laugh and cry at the same time. Even though the lyrics are horrible though, I still have this weird attraction to it. Maybe because I like the idea of Kesha getting mowed down by a falling tree while too drunk to use autotune.
This from Thomas was Alone. It just gives me warm fuzzy feels, possibly because it reminds me of a particular part in the game that always makes me happy.

Here’s something I made today: https://soundcloud.com/stevenlynn-1/peter
That’s pretty spooky. Sends chills down my spine and strikes my Do Not Want chords.
From God’s Perspective, Bo Burnham
Three of the most powerful words in the history of music are vincero, vincero, vincero!
So Real by Dok2
Undisclosed Desires by Muse
Won’t Get Fooled Again – The Who
I Belong To You by Caro Emerald
One of the things I love about hip-hop is finding new artists through samples.
It Was Written by Nas
They’re different styles, but I think I may like IWW more than Illmatic, and I like Illmatic a lot.
So I was listening to Johnny Cash and I happened to look up covers of one of his songs. That was when I discovered this band:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yywGI1H_oyM
I never knew that Yzma had a villain song cut from the Emperor’s New Groove! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwtZo8orlM4
Why did they cut this?! I love it.
Sad that it was cut, I loved the “feel like a million” song in the sequel. Villain songs are a cornerstone of the industry.
eta: I really like how this song hints at the plot for the sequel as well, that would have been a clever tie-in.
The chorus was eerily reminiscent of “Are You in or Out” from Aladdin and the King of Thieves, which might have added weight to the decision to cut it.
I think i’ve posted this before but I’m posting it again, it’s my band Superflux (which at the moment has one member which is me) improvising in the studio and features me on the guitar: http://superflux.bandcamp.com/track/2
I’m really getting into I Fight Dragons, especially their songs “My Way” and “The Faster the Treadmill”. Maybe I’m just a sucker for songs that basically say “stop telling me how to live”.
(Quick plug – you can download their first album for free by signing up for their newsletter)
^^I listened to them a bit after I read your post. I liked them.
“Believer” by American Authors
‘This Heaven’ by David Gilmour
Iggy Azalea is the fucking worst and Fancy needs to go die in the depths of a sewer somewhere.
King of Maine – Spose
EDIT: Trying to clarify.

Vulgaris Magistralis is my favorite from that band.
Not sure if it’s me or the singer, but it took me almost to the end of the song before I realised it was a cover of Cat Stevens’ Peace Train, not a song about g-strings.
Completely unrelated, but Brian Setzer’s new rockabilly single, Let’s Shake, is exactly as awesome as every single other rockabilly song you’ve ever heard.
I Want it All, Queen
Gone by Kayne West
This is such a beautifully produced song.
When we’re young, we design a plan, we work, we build, we make it real / And in the moment it becomes complete, the first cracks start to appear / A weak foundation, finally revealed / In the desperation when the walls come tumbling down …

EYES, NOSE, LIPS by Taeyang & Tablo
Hits From the Bong – Cypress Hill
It’s a little bit of comedy mixed in with an awesome sample.
Those Canaan days we used to know
Where have they gone? Where did they go?
Et bien! Raise your berets
to those Canaan days.
Got bored and decided to play some keyboard solos to my favourite band.
My sister videoed the playing, which explains the energetic jumping of the camera. It’s not a serious upload, it’s just something I did for fun.
Erik Satie is probably my favorite composer. His Gymnopédies are hauntingly beautiful.
The song starts at 1:40. Ba-ba-dee-ba.

I’ve never really gotten into Radiohead, but I listened to OK Computer today and I really enjoyed it.
A conversation between me and my little brother:
BRO: So now we live in a world where the song ‘Anaconda’ is empowering…am I missing something?
ME: WHY DID YOU MAKE ME LOOK THAT UP?! I was so happy in my blissful ignorance.
BRO: I survived in blissful ignorance for a while. I thought it was about The Jungle Book.
This is what happens when you’re out of the pop-cultural know, children.
Portishead’s Dummy is pretty sweet.
^ It is.
Do you have any other trip-hop recommendations, SWQ? Massive Attack is one of my favorite groups and I’ve also been listening to Tricky, too (though I don’t like them as much.)
So apparently, I’m my Mom. These past few months, I’ve listened to an ungodly amount of Gordon Lightfoot and John Denver.
@Puppet: I don’t listen to all that much trip-hop, to be honest. Here are some CDs that are trip-hop adjacent that I really love:
Perdition City: Ulver
Souvenirs: The Gathering
My friend just introduced me to Massive Attack, they sound cool. I’m not totally head-over-heels in love with the music, but it’s interesting.
Plini is nice :3
Doctor Worm, They Might be Giants
The Helix Nebula holy shit I wasn’t expecting this
my band has a new EP: https://superflux.bandcamp.com/album/mise-en-abyme
give it a spin!
Yay! It sounds awesome :D Gallows has a very Hendrix-ish vibe, especially in the beginning.
e-dubble – Drinking with my Headphones On
@Dave Does your mother also listen to Stan Rogers and Stompin’ Tom Connors? Both of them are better than John Denver, and both Canadian like Gordon Lightfoot.
Calambito Temucano — Inti-Illimani
I’m listening to a bit of Scroobius Pip, and also Shia LeBeouf by Rob Cantor. It’s really freaking funny. XD
Listening to the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack. I haven’t listened to it in a while, but it’s all sorts of awesome.
@Resistance, I do love me some Hans Zimmer!
Currently listening to Koven…celestial (^_^)
Helix Nebula :3
@Potatoman – What do you play?
@SadPuppyBureaucrat – I mainly play the guitar, but I’ve been learning how to do unclean vocals and synths for about 2 years now.
Remember the good old days when singers could sing “clean” AND “unclean,” and bands would need one lead singer?
@Nossus: Those were the days
Hidden ‘cause I wrote it:
I wanted something intense, melodic and atmospheric.
