Influencing younger siblings is fun. :) My brother is the only kid in his class who likes German power metal, and if my older sister hadn’t influenced me, I shudder to think what my tastes would be like.

Pearl Jam – Love Reign O’er Me and The Real Me.
Influencing younger siblings is fun. :)
It is! I got my brother into a handful of musicals. :D
In return, he got me into They might be Giants
Pearl Jam – Love Reign O’er Me and The Real Me.
nice!
Love Reign O’er Me always gives me chills.
Previously I was listening to Summertime Blues, from a 1969 Who concert.
I’m on a huge Rod Stewart kick right now. I normally don’t like that kind of voice, but there’s a certain . . . sincerity, I guess, that gets me singing along.
The Rodster is awesome, and I don’t even like that style of music.
He’s like 68 now and he still rocks
His voice is ok to listen to for like 10 minutes. And he was cool in the Jeff Beck Group and the Faces. That was it though.
Currently listening to
The Music Must Change by the Who
Currently listening to: We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.
Shame
Furtively looks around
WeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE are never ever ever getting back together!
Shame
That was terribly unkind, Willow.
I’m so glad I came across this artist some weeks ago.
God, Taylor Swift. Stop it, you guys- and now it’s in my head. >:(
Currently listening to: We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.
Have you heard the parody, We Were Never Ever Actually Together? It is awesome.
That line needs one less “ever” in it and it would work for me. She just tries to stuff too many evers in there. Yes, I think of this every time I hear the song.
I’m listening to the vinyl edition of the Tron Legacy soundtrack by Daft Punk. ~3,000 Kbps is glorious.
Just listened to The Dark Side of the Moon (vinyl, of course) for the very first time. I had my noise cancelling headphones on and I was lying down with my eyes closed, letting the music sink in and engulf me. It was beautiful. I felt so peaceful, so satisfied and so content as I was listening, as if nothing really mattered. At one point I even teared up a little bit.
Absolutely gorgeous album.

Oooh great album.
God I wish I had a record player, but that’s a great album. (as far as Pink Floyd goes I prefer The Wall though)
The Wall is too down. It has a lot of filler as well. Dark Side is perfect in every way.
The Wall is too down. It has a lot of filler as well. Dark Side is perfect in every way.
It is rather long and depressing and I don’t listen to it very often because of that. And the film was a total mindscrew
The Wall is literally the only rock album my dad will listen to. I’m not denying that if he’s going to pick one album, he’s chosen well, but he doesn’t even like any other Pink Floyd. I personally am more attached to Dark Side of the Moon, just because my family would always go to those astronomy light shows in the science museum when I was a kid, and it was the soundtrack.
Listening to Sea and Sand from Quadrophenia
^my fav
^my fav
I’m not sure if I can choose a favourite from that album (or of the Who over all) but that one is really really close.
Sea and Sand has made me tear up before. Very few things do that to me.
But actually depending on who I’m talking to I’ll say either Love reign O’er Me or Naked Eye is my fav Who song (if I’m talking to a layman, I say the former, if I’m talking to a Who fan I say the latter).
Naked Eye
this version in particular http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXRQztberv0
Sea and Sand has made me tear up before.
The line “I’m wet and I’m cold, but thank God I ain’t old” makes me choke up sometimes for some reason. (especially when seeing it live) Go to the Mirror from Tommy has the same effect.

Yeah, if I were talking to a “Troo FANZ” type person who would look down on me for liking one of their most popular songs, I might go for The Dirty Jobs (just like when discussing Queen with the “Troo FAnz” I don’t mention Bohemian Rhapsody and go for The Prophet’s Song instead.)
this version in particular http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXRQztberv0
Oooh.
Singing along right now.
Koda – The Last Stand
For writing music, this is exactly the kind of thing I’ve been looking for for a long while.
I’m listening to the first Heart album. It’s fucking sick
Sally Simpson, from Tommy
You’ll like this one. Roger Daltrey and Ann Wilson singing Kashmir: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7owf78-BYA

oooh, cool!
I fucking love Roger. He’s fantastic.
Ann Wilson is from Heart, right? She has a good voice.
Influencing younger siblings is fun. :)
False. I showed my sister a Big Bang music video once and now her bedroom walls are papered with posters of unsettlingly beautiful Asian men.
Anyway, I’m listening to “Brown Hair” by Goo Hye Sun. It’s cute.
...My little brother tried to sing Black Dog and hum the guitar riff.
It wasn’t pretty.
I can’t stop listening to Gramatik, such phat beats.
Listening to That Handsome Devil – the greatest band in the universe!
Pills For Everything right now. :D
YOU SUCK, KARAMAZOVA. >:(
YOU SUCK, KARAMAZOVA. >:(
<3 LOVE YOU SWQ.
I LOVE YOU TOO, EVEN THOUGH YOU JUST DID THAT TO ME. BUT IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME FOR THE TRUST TO RETURN.
Related to this discussion: One of my roommates is seeing The Who in a few weeks with her dad. Lucky thing. :P I haven’t been to any concerts since I came to Berkeley because I don’t have any friends who share my taste in music that I’d feel comfortable going with. It’s tragic.

I saw them in November and I think it killed me.
On a completely shallow note, Daltrey still looks great shirtless even though he’s 70. Seriously that man is in amazing shape.
Is it the Haircut? it’s the Haircut, isn’t it?
Custard Pie, Led Zeppelin
I’m fairly certain this song isn’t actually about baked goods.
Been listening to some old school rap
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (or Younger Generation as they are called here)
Love it.
I have just discovered that Dido is more awesome than people give her credit for.
Also, Falling, GM Flash was always awesome. The difference is that the old-school rappers actually put some thought and effort into their lyrics and message, compared to the late-90s and/or modern rap scene.
Food, Glorious Food, from Oliver
I have just discovered that Dido is more awesome than people give her credit for.
That she is, I always thought her music was enjoyable because she has a certain sincereity that’s hard to find sometimes. That and she’s able to make songs that melancholy, but oddly comforting without being overblown.
When the Levee Breaks, Led Zeppelin
Lost My Mind, They Might be Giants
Shakawkaw by Infected Mushroom
Converting Vegetarians is such a good album.
...
Good Time by Owl City ft. Carly Rae Jepsen.
Dammit
Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
Die Young by Ke$ha.
Gahhhhhhhh
Rumour Has It by Adele sounds so good and then it hits the chorus and it’s just the most boring chorus ever and it feels lazy and I don’t like it :/
^ I’m not a big Adele fan, but Skyfall was pretty epic. :D
Some Nights by fun.
Lights by Ellie Goulding.
Blow Up Tricycle – Snatcher Perfect Battle Selection
^ She’s quirkily awesome
Brain Stew.
Came across Lenka in a thread about Windows 8 haha. But I’ve been listening to whole bunch of her songs and really like her. Kinda reminds me of Six Pence None The Richer/ Leigh Nash.
Oh yes. And Haywire Mac: Big Rock Candy Mountain
Thrift Store, Macklemore
I am deeply, deeply ashamed.
This song is so stupid
but I can’t help myself
Why do you listen to that stuff, Willow? Are you stuck with it at work? Or do you honestly like it? If you do, why are you ashamed?
Waltz in A flat Major — Frederic Chopin, performed by Vladimir Ashkenazy
The A Team, Ed Sheeran
So I’m okay with Adele probably winning the Oscar for best original song, but I’m still really disappointed that this song wasn’t even nominated because I’m totally obsessed with it. And even Ted got a nod. What the hell.
Maybe it’s because there’s profanity. Oh well, if you censored it, that would ruin the whole song.
Somebody To Love, Queen
The original, not the Hathaway (or, gods forbid, the Glee) version?
Or, if you want a good version, you could try the one by Jefferson Airplane :P
The original, not the Hathaway (or, gods forbid, the Glee) version?
reading ain’t your thing, is it?
There’s no need to be rude, Nossus. I was confirming. I once had a friend who thought Queen was the stage name of a local tribute/impersonation artist. Completely ignorant of the actual group.
So your defense is that you knew someone who was SO stupid that they didn’t know about one of the top 10 best-selling artists in the world?
Anyway, I’m listening to the Sex Pistols.
Really? Queen’s in the top 10? Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeurgh.
Nossus, don’t be a jerk. As has been said many times before, it’s possible to express your views without being rude. If not, then don’t say it. This is basic etiquette. And condescending personal remarks are definitely not appropriate.
The original, not the Hathaway (or, gods forbid, the Glee) version?
Fuck no there’s no Glee version.
IT DOESN’T EXIST.
Or, if you want a good version, you could try the one by Jefferson Airplane :P
leave now and never come back.
What am I listening to right now?
That’s a good song but I hate U2.
I’m listening to Don’t Let Me Down
That’s a good song but I hate U2.
I have to be in right mood to listen to U2 for any length of time.
but all their songs are basically the same thing anyway
Listening to Life’s Been Good by Joe Walsh.
I listened to the 6 channel, lossless soundtracks for Inception and The Social Network today. As much as I love Hans Zimmer, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross really outdid themselves and completely deserved their Academy Award and Golden Globe. The Social Network‘s soundtrack is a work of art.
Hans Zimmer has gone off the deep end.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross really outdid themselves and completely deserved their Academy Award and Golden Globe. The Social Network‘s soundtrack is a work of art.
Oh yeah. I’m still disappointed it didn’t win Best Picture.
Long, Long Time, Billy Joel
Halestorm won the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance at the Grammys! That’s really the only category I care about. They beat out some bands that I like (like IRON MAIDEN) but honestly, I think they deserve it. I thought they were just a generic hard rock band years ago until I saw them live and I was blown away. They’re a blast on stage, even if they’re ‘mainstream’ and not the most musically original.
But I’m kind of disappointed by all the negative spam they’re getting on their videos now by Iron Maiden and Anthrax fanboys- and especially the amount of criticism that focuses around the female vocalist. Anyone who can pull off Skid Row and Guns ‘n’ Roses as well as Lzzy Hale should be considered a hard rock badass, regardless of their gender.
/rant over
I couldn’t think of anything more meaningless than a Grammy. Or any ‘award’ for art, really.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVtgxBrSpro
I don’t know. An award’s pretty good to smash someone’s face with when they try to break into your house.
An award’s pretty good to smash someone’s face with when they try to break into your house.
It’s also nice to have shiny things in your bathroom.
I couldn’t think of anything more meaningless than a Grammy.
True enough.
But does that mean that all art is necessarily good or valid or well-constructed or aesthetic? Art is not above judgement.
Yeah but who the fuck is it that gives out the Grammys, and what the fuck do they know about music?
The only awards show I ever watch is the Tonys, and that’s just for the performances rather than the actual awards.
Currently listening to Made in Heaven by Freddie Mercury
His solo stuff is so full of cheesy goodness.
honestly though he could sing wheels on the bus and I’d listen to it
But does that mean that all art is necessarily good or valid or well-constructed or aesthetic? Art is not above judgement.
Yeah, but it doesn’t mean that an award committee’s judgement correlates with my judgement. :)
I’ve been addicted to this song ever since I first heard it today. I wish I had more friends who share my music taste so that I could actually go to concerts in San Francisco.
honestly though he could sing wheels on the bus and I’d listen to it
My roommate who saw the Who last weekend just walked in while I was listening to that. Perfect timing! That totally made my day.
EDIT: Now ‘Wheels on the Bus’ is stuck in my head. GAHHHHHHH Daltrey is great but this is not going to work with calculus.
that song ownssssssss
I laughed so hard I screamed
I have the weirdest tastes in music… these past couple of days I’ve been listening to everything from sea shanties (once you hear Blood Red Roses, it will never ever ever leave your head) to AC/DC to Johnny Cash.
I tried to explain my musical tastes to somebody yesterday, but I think I just confused him. :)

I’ve been getting into Cash lately, though in general I don’t listen to country.
Yeah, me neither, which is why I think it’s odd I like Johnny Cash. His voice is just so nice to listen to, though.

It really is, particularly his slower stuff. I even like some of his religious-themed music. And Ring of Fire and Boy Named Sue are absolute classics as well.
