You’re right, Brave was awesome. I love how it was set up as a traditional rebellious-princess movie, but then it subverted it. My other two favorites from the soundtrack besides that one are “Touch the Sky,” and “Learn Me Right,” though I like the other tracks too, especially “The Games,” and the music that plays when Mor’du appears at the ruin.

I really want to go, but a ticket would be $112 and it would be 40+ dollars in gas to get there and back and of course I have to buy a t-shirt so that’s another probably $40… but fuck, they are one of my absolute favorite bands and I love their new album and really wanna see them.

I read an interesting article about that song the other day; apparently is a surprisingly subversive critique of South Korean economic elitism. Gangnam is a wealthy suburb, where everyone is or acts like shallow and image-obsessed. E.g. there’s a reference to a joke that a Gangnam lady will spend $2 on noodles, but $6 on coffee just for the sake of appearance.

I’m still completely taken by surprise every time I see someone horse-dancing around campus.

apparently is a surprisingly subversive critique of South Korean economic elitism.

And it’s not subtle at all either. I hope eventually the fame the song has garnered worldwide will spur people to actually look at what the song is about, because there’s rather more to it than just a silly dance.

I am, but I haven’t heard much of their new stuff—I have almost all of their stuff from before 2007 or 2008, but nothing after that. I hadn’t heard about the latest development, though. Interesting.

(FWIW, I never cared about the original switch anyway. I liked Tarja, I liked Anette, I’ll probably like whoever they get next. This is likely because I started listening after Tarja was gone anyway.)
