The remastered version of I Robot was on sale at Barnes & Noble yesterday, so I bought it. The remastering itself isn’t really worth it (although not half bad, it isn’t really half good, either), but the bonus tracks are kinda cool.

Well, yeah, it was a few years back. Actually most of Metallica’s Christian as well.

Want to try something funny? Read that sentence again, let the shock deepen, and then go back a few albums and try to find anything that’s actually anti-Christian (Whatever album Whiplash is on, I can’t guarantee that one). It’s surprising how many Christian-neutral or even positive elements you find.

Seriously?! I mean, don't get me wrong I love Metallica but I thought James Hetfield had kind of an angry at God thing going on although I can't think of anything that's anti-Christian or anti-God in their music.

Aw, man, that was hilarious. I just made fun of metalheads and then without EVEN THINKING did exactly what I just finished mocking. I invite you all to laugh at me with me.

Eh, it’s not really about Christianity. In fact, those musicians that do bash Christianity often have the same issues with all religions, not necessarily with God. Metal is a highly individualistic genre that tends to place pride on personal strength, rather than depending on someone else.

Case in point: Slayer wrote the song ‘God Hates Us All’. The frontman said ‘He doesn’t hate…but it’s a good title for a song’. I don’t really like Slayer, because if you’re going to write a song, at least MEAN WHAT YOU SAY.

But the point is that there are definitely religious people in the metal scene, just as there are Satanists (though I think Satanists are hilarious just because they’re trying to be so dark and evil all the time).

Interestingly, I listen to several metal bands that are apathetic or hostile to religion’s abuse and excesses, but none that are anti-Christian (in terms of Jesus’s ideals of peace or love) or Satanist (which are really a minority in the first place). I actually do listen to a one or two Christian bands.

Still Alive from portal is awesome, if you played the game you know that. If you haven’t played the game, don’t listen to the song, because it contains spoilers for the game. [The same goes for the other songs I’ll link too. ;-)] Want you gone is good, but it is so different from Still Alive. Which may or may not be a good thing. I like it, but someone made a cover of Want you gone in the style of Still Alive. I think it’s very good.

No, but I hate that one too. The one I’m thinking of is some white-people song that features maybe four lines in the whole thing that actually rhyme.
