Oooooooooooooooh, hello! Good to see another Whovian. :D
Yo DWest!
You should chat with my male friend, who is a Whovian.
Speaking of BF audios, anybody know which ones are the best?
So tacky.
But—4 April! Whee!
That trailer was a bit lame. But I suppose that’s what makes Doctor Who so lovable. ^^
Bad special effects ftw. 8D
Silurians ftw!
D’awwwwww…..can’t wait. XD Gonna be so much fun!
In other news, in order to survive in the mean time, I am watching Sarah Jane Adventures. So very kid-oriented and more than slightly ridiculous. But whispers I’m enjoying it. :]
Luke is such a designed woobie/deus ex machina it isn’t even funny, but I feel that if I don’t like him, it would be akin to throwing kittens at a wall. So “awwwwwww”
Apart from the obvious stylus/wiimote sonic screwdrivery, how do you think this will turn out?
I was pessimistic when I first heard the news.
And I still am.
The Doctor meets the Volturi? xD
HAH. YES.
I knew he’d be awesome.
That sequence with the previous Doctors?
Awesome.
This new era is going to be wonderful (and possibly less emo). And I love the new TARDIS. 8D
I’m looking forward to the Angels and Silurians. This series should be Fun!
Yes. That is one thing the new design said: fun. It is going to be pants-wettingly scary and gloriously fun.
8D
Ok, the new theme music is gradually growing on me… I still don’t think I will ever prefer it, but, hmmm.
I wasn’t too sure about Matt Smith at first, but he was great in the first episode. I think I’m going to love the new series with Moffat at the helm. I’m looking forward to the next episode; that shot of space-Britain with all the buildings labelled made me laugh.
I saw bits and pieces of the first episode (will watch all of it once I get back home). And so far, the vague reactions from this episode that I’m seeing seem to be…
Casual fans: AWESOME EPISODE! But they changed the theme music… D:
Fanboys: Amy Pond… drools
Cynical fans: Fuck yes, Doctor Who is watchable again.
Old Who Purists: It sucks. All of this new Who sucks. I’d rather it be the good old days where the stories lasted for 6 episodes and all the monsters were in rubber suits and the Doctor was a violent bastard instead of this emotionally complex girly-boy. God, those were the days.
I think Matt Smith is really gonna do this role well. It needed some nuance after the PASSION of DT (Who I still miss…).
dons smoking jacket Matt Smith has played smaller roles most of the time in the past, meaning that he has to act in subtle ways to bring depth to his less screentime’d character. It’s gonna be good. I felt the he was neither emulating DT nor was he being an ANTI-DT. He was utterly and totally his own.
Dad was like: And when he said “I am the Doctor; listen to me!” he really was imposing. YEAH.
Enjoyed the first episode.
Still hate the new music. :(
The new Doctor Who series still hasn’t arrived in Australia yet. T^T I wanna watch it NOW.
Relax, it doesn’t hit the States until Saturday. Unfortunatly for me, I don’t get BBC America.
Saturday? This upcoming Saturday? Really?
Doesn’t ABC1 or ABC2 or ABC3 views Doctor Who?
Yes, this Saturday. Really. And, no, the only network that has any Doctor Who episodes (at least according to my guide) is BBC America. Also, there’s just the one ABC network here.
I have more than one ABC network on my channel guide thingy.
SERIOUSLY!? This Saturday!? Unbelievable! I gotta check it out.
Just saw Victory of the Daleks. I already miss the RTD-era Daleks, especially compared to how the Mighty Morphin’ Daleks look.
Argh!
Turns out Doctor Who is actually on Sunday, not Saturday and I totally missed the whole thing. Grrrr.
That was a weird episode. Job titles do fit the Daleks better than names though, and the bronze was getting dull. They also seem much more devious and dangerous, which makes a nice change from how ineffective they’ve recently been.
Jo?! What? How unexpected. She’s my favourite companion, although I imagine her personality will be rather different.
Who can we expect back next? Susan, Leela and Romana would be good for last-of-the-Time-Lords angsting, and it would be nice to see what happened with Ace.
Finally caught up to Doctor Who. Seen all of Nine Ten and Eleven, except for the second part to Family of Blood.
except for the second part to Family of Blood.
You despicable fool.
You despicable fool.
I detect a note of tension. That was right around the time I stopped watching, and came back and just went to Blink since I heard so much about it.
You should probably finish Family of Blood, then. You can complete the series, stave off Jeni’s wrath, watch a good story, and see Viserys’ actor acting.
Only temporarily. He’s committed a terrible sin that can never be forgiven.
WHAT.
WHAT.
Go back and watch the second part of Family of Blood. NOW.
So that you can see John Smith become the Doctor again and not that snivelling human I wanted to punch in the face all the time.
Ahem.
Okay, I didn’t hate him that much, but I didn’t much like him either.
HOW DO YOU NOT FINISH TWO-PARTERS.
:C
I dunno, just never did.
See? Violence.
Excellent. I am really taking a liking to River Song.
Now I’m gonna have dreams of being handled roughly by Karen Gillan. :3
So once again, I want Moffat’s babies.
That was so beautifully subtle and wonderful and brilliant and… <3 <3 <3
I finally saw the first episode. Matt Smith is cute. I think I like him as the Doctor, but I’m unsure. I’m just anxious to see what the daleks look like now, because a friend told me they’ve changed. (I love daleks. They’re so cute…)
I loved the scene with the previous Doctors. Twas EPIC.
Also, changed theme song = bleh.
I like Amelia Pond so far, though. She seems like she’ll be a good companion. But then again, what do I know?
I’m not too keen on the new theme as well.
The new theme song sounds like some weird crackly feedback into my hearing equipments.
And the DALEKS! Unbelievable colours. I don’t think I really like those new colours much…
Go! Go! Dalek Rangers! as I have heard it referenced.
I didn’t like the sudden additions of all sorts of characteristics to the weeping angels. Like the “In your eye” thing. It was brilliantly cool, but as it wasn’t set up earlier (in Blink…they looked at their eyes the whole time…), so it kinda came off as “where did this come from?”
I do like consistency in my shows and if we keep adding characteristics on to our monsters, soon they will be undefeatable save by deus ex machina.
Next one looks awesome, tho.
I need to catch up on the episodes of season five that I’ve missed: pretty much all of them. :(
Matt Smith is awesomely awesome, though.
WELL.
Fuck you, Moffat.
I’ll probably forgive him by 26th June.
Jeni- THANK GOD I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE!
However, why in the hell was the ring still in the Tardis? If he was erased from time completely- the ring would not be there.
I almost forgot to mention, damn you Moffat, may you burn in the fires of hell for all eternity.
I got too busy to watch the Silurian two-parter (and being written by Chibnall kind of dissuaded me), so I’m guessing that shit went down.
shit went down.
Eloquently put. Shit went down hard.
I’m guessing the ring’s going to be some major plot device in the last two episodes. I know that something has to happen in the last two episodes; Moffat can’t just abandon this plot thread here. That would be bad writing.
Shit went down hard.
Shit went down, exploded in a mushroom cloud, and then was dipped in some fucking sugar.
@ Miel-
I told dad that. He insists it’s just because it was in the Tardis. I explained if something was in the Tardis and that protected it, what in the hell was up with the Tardis shrapnel, and why in the hell did she forget?
I propose we form a group: Moffat Murderers Anonymous
I watched my first episode last night, since I kept running across this show. Guess which one it was!~
If you guessed Blink, you are dead right!
whimpers
I disagree with most of this guy’s opinions!
Also, Moffat is still infinitely superior to Davies in my mind. At least let the series end before plotting his assassination! Yesterday’s episode makes up for most of the others’ problems, I think.
I switched off when he started comparing him to David Tennant. That kind of crap annoys me. He’s a poor reviewer, doesn’t actually think about the story and I generally look down upon him now.
One day when I’m all caught up on DW, I will read all of the hidden text in this thread. And it will be glorious.
My excuse for being so slow at watching it is that I am savoring its awesomeness.
I’m told I should start watching DW, but I’m getting a bit of Archive Panic. What season should I start with? I already know David Tennant from Casanova, but is that too late in the show? Should I start earlier?
Start at Rose. But if you’re really feeling the archive panic, just start at The Eleventh Hour.
The Eleventh Hour is the finale of season four isn’t it?
I’m feeling the same way as Puppet and SMAlien. I’ve only seen episodes 1, 4, 5, and 6 of the latest series, Silence in the Library, and the one with Donna set in Pompeii. And not in that order.
Nevertheless I’ve become a massive fan. Now as long as I can bluff my way though everything else…
The Eleventh Hour is the finale of season four isn’t it?
No. It’s the first episode of series five.
Ah, whoops. But yeah. I have seen that, I just didn’t remember the name.
You could start with the four specials as well.
I found a youtube channel full of clip show music videos!
It has every story up to 2008 in 1 and 2 second clips, punctuated with famous quotations, and an entertainingly unreliable summary of the series so far.
My dad can as well. I am learning from him.
Ah, I hadn’t noticed that that girl had posted the comment on the DW fanatic (she speaks the truth; he’s a serious addict).
Daleks
Cybermen
Sontarans
Judoon
Hoix
Weevils
Blowfish
Uvodni
Sycorax
Silurians
Autons
Those Santa robots from the first two Christmas specials
Slitheen
Drahvins
Chelonians
Pyroviles
God, the list of monsters for the season finale is fucking huge. This is like the inverse of Journey’s End.
Spoilers much?
Prick.
Awww. D:
Even the late series filler is great in this series!
Random Drahvin mention makes me squee with nerdliness.
The Doctor+ Soccer= So Much Win
I just saw 5.7. I nearly cried.
The Doctor+ Soccer= So Much Win
FOOTBALL. Get it right. >:|
:P
Matt Smith playing football was amazing. Much happy flailing.
Huh really!? That would be awesome. Except I have to wait. ;_;
FOOTBALL. Get it right. >:|
Um, in Australia, football and soccer are different sports.
No, you have Aussie rules football.
And in fact: Soccer to become football in Australia
:P Yeah I guess. I still have some ways to go. But then, 13 years on the planet is not much. Of course I wouldn’t know everything.
Damn us americans and our uncooperative nature.
Eh, came from Oxford originally. If wikipedia is to be believed. Heheheh.
Better find someone to throw into it before it eats the galaxy. I’d pick Stephanie Meyer, but it might just spit her back.
Just finally got caught up, and… agreed on the soccer/football thing (can we compromise? :)), very very sad about the… you-know-what thing, and VERY VERY CANNOT WAIT AT ALL for the next episode!
Bloody hell, Moffat. That was goddamn epic.
After much, much delay I have finished Series 2 of Doctor Who. It’s one of those shows I could never get into, until now.
Now you have Tennant.
Man, finally got around to watching it.
The opening pre-credits was, again, a credit to Moffat. For me, HELLO SWEETIE is still hilariously funny and brilliant. I loved the inclusion of all the mains from the previous episodes, it made me squee inside. :3
My brain had to shut off for the first bit after the credits, because all I could scream was RIVER, YOU HAVEN’T MET AMY YET. STOP ACTING LIKE YOU KNOW HER OR AREN’T INTERESTED IN MEETING THE NEW COMPANION.
Which is going to lead me to re-watch the Angels, to look at how River acted then. ‘Cos I swear she treated her like new!Companion.
But, the best bit about it was Matt Smith. My goodness, his acting. The Doctor should never look that scared. It broke my heart, and those final moments actually made me Very Afraid. D8
I’m gonna watch it again, that’s if I can take scared!Doctor.
^^ Matt Smith has to be one of the best actors I’ve seen.
I just saw the end of In Cold Blood (episode 9). Biiiiiiiiig Spoilers.
!!!
!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m still in shock. How? HOW!!!?!?!?!? Moffat better bring’em back.
Cold Blood spoilahs:
This is going to get confusing, because some people are watching on the American schedule (which is up to, what, episode 9 (Cold Blood) now? Or 10 (The Lodger)?), some people are watching on the British schedule (first half of the finale/The Pandorica Opens), and some people are just watching whenever. So label your spoilers carefully!
Get on British time people. Way more devastating stuff happens than just Cold Blood.
I’m on Australian time. Episode 11 is on tomorrow night. So I agree about the labelling spoilers issue. Be careful people!
Also, Vincent and the Doctor was so heartwarming…
Finally someone I can relate to about Doctor Who in terms of time/schedule.
Episode 10 certainly made me a fan of Vincent. I like him. A lot.
I think I’m going to write a fanfic of him and the Doctor kicking some monster butt.
I just have to figure out how to make the Doctor take him…
Vincent can see invisible monsters, monsters that the Doctor can’t see. How about that?
Since when has the Doctor ever had to justify taking someone? :) He took Martha for fun, and then things escalated. He asked Donna because he was lonely/bored, same for Amy. Maybe he comes back and is like “Dude! Let’s go time travel!”
Minor The Pandorica Opens Spoiler (it’s from the beginning, probably doesn’t spoil much, but just in case…):
My lips are sealed.
HURRY UP, YANKS.
