But so you don’t have to put up with Shurtugal’s appalling advertising:
Christopher Paolini recently spent a week answering fan-submitted questions, netting Inheritance fans over 13,000 words worth of questions-and-answers. That’s a lot of content to sift through! We’ve processed all 13,000 words and have pulled the very best facts revealed by Christopher, compiling them all into one organized, easy-to-read guide to confirmed Book 4 facts, Book 4 teasers, information on Book 4 and 5, prequels, and beyond.
Some highlights from our compilation include Christopher’s revelation of a fifth book; just how close Christopher is to finishing Book 4; hints at characters and their roles in Book 4, including Murtagh, Roran, Nasuada, Angela, “Wolf Eyes“, “Bladesinger“, and more; Inheritance prequels; life after Inheritance, including multiple already-plotted books; and more! You won’t want to miss this summary!
Any bit of information stated below in quotation marks is a direct quote from one of Christopher’s answers in his Q&A. Any non-quotation fact is a summarized version of a long answer given by Christopher in his Q&A. No information contained below was taken from anywhere but his recent Q&A.
Book 4: Let’s start out with some answers to our most-asked questions!

List of “No Comment” questions
What can we infer from “no comment” questions? They make for great theories! If Christopher is unable to answer a question and resorts to a “no comment” answer, you can be sure that the question is headed in the right direction. These are not to be taken as confirmations for – or against – the question being asked, however make good fuel for fan theories and speculation.
Fun Inheritance Facts
Let’s clear something up: do dragons die when their Rider dies?!
“NO. A dragon does not have to die when his or her Rider dies. Brom was speaking in general terms when he said that in Book One. Most dragons do die when their Riders do, or else they go mad. But not all. OR, they choose to live on in their Eldunarí. Brom just didn’t want to say anything about the Eldunarí then. A more nuanced explanation of this was given by Oromis and Glaedr when discussing the heart of hearts with Eragon and Saphira.”
Could we have just one bit of information about Book 4?
“Beware of red-eyed rabbits.”
There were far more ‘no comment’ questions. For my sporking over at Anti-Shurtugal, I counted something like 30 “no comments”, ranging from fair theories to questions that it’s just ridiculous to answer with ‘no comment’.
Also, the only reason I’m interested in book 5 is for the elven funeral, because DAMN, that’s going to fail so hard. As I sad earlier, Quantum theorists are going to have to discover new dimensions for Paolini to fail in.
For my sporking over at Anti-Shurtugal
Dude, you should have posted them here. We need more Inheritance/lit discussion. :/
Edit: In fact I request, nay, I demand you post them. Now. :D
book 5
You mean book 4?
Yes, Book 4.
The slightly-more-hilarious Part 3
Re-post them yourself, if you want. You have my permission. I’m SO not in the mood for converting all of that HTML into Textiles.
I’m still reeling from there being a book 5.
Do you think he’ll EVER learn to write better? Because, seriously, I kinda like the guy. He’s white and nerdy, and whatever else you can say about him, he does write from the heart.
EDIT:
I’m SO not in the mood for converting all of that HTML into Textiles.
Bet there’s gotta be some kinda program that does that, right?
Nah.
He’s just lazy. ;)
crowning moments of awesomeness
...CP reads TV Tropes. Did not see that one coming.
Also, I tell you now, the elf that dies is Queen Islanzadi. At first, I was like “An elf funeral, durr it must be Oromis’s” (Oromis’? I hate apostrophes/plurals with names that end in “s”...), but he did say “death” as well, so… Islanzadi. Because there is absolutely no way he could kill off his Eragon’s beloved Arya.

That’s a laugh, then a ‘wait’, then a ‘no bleeping way’. If he read TVT at all, he woulda done some work on his work a long time ago…
Unless he’s just started reading it over the weekend and hasn’t discovered the Inheritance entry yet. And when he does, maybe he’ll make a resolution, and totally subvert everything he set up over the past four books. I know it’s not likely, but I guess I’m still hoping at heart that he’s a massive Stealth Self Parody.
I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone online who hasn’t read TVTropes.
I hadn’t till I came across II, which was a year and a half ago, so… it can happen.
I have a shirt from it now. I wanted the TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life/TV Tropes Will Enhance Your Life shirt, but ended up going for a plainer one instead.
This completely arbitrary tangent has been brought to you by swenson, who will now return you to your regularly scheduled programming. :)
Also, I like the sporkings, Taku. Very nice, and I applaud your strength of will.
Uhg, I gave up on Inheritance Forums a long time ago. I applaud your bravery, Taku.
I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone online who hasn’t read TVTropes.
I haven’t. :P
I haven’t. :P
Seriously? Then again, different circles reference different things…
ANYWAY...
I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone online who hasn’t read TVTropes.
My sister is semi-nerdy, but not that nerdy.
Anyway, someone beat me to pointing out the TVTropes reference. It’s odd that he’s planning a 5th book, because I’d thought he was getting a bit bored with Inheritance.
Perhaps specifically tired with Eragon’s story?
I’m hoping for more Murtagh in the spinoff—and book 4—actually.
Yeah, the way he talks about a possible fifth book makes it sound like it would definitely be set after the events of the original “cycle”. Which could be good; if he gets his attention off the self-insert Gary Stu, maybe he could focus on some more interesting, more original characters and settings.

I’m not sure if it would be better or worse to have Murtagh or Galbatorix narrate. Right now I still hold out hope they have logical thought patterns, but if they get to narrate, I’m pretty sure that would be destroyed.
Which could be good; if he gets his attention off the self-insert Gary Stu, maybe he could focus on some more interesting, more original characters and settings.
Or he may just find another Stu. Perhaps Eragon dies in a Suitably Self-Sacrificial Stu Style Suicide at the end of book four, and the next book follows every single other person.
Also, Ebelean (hello, by the way!), it would be worse to have Galbatorix narrate, from a structural point of view. As readers, we don’t know anything about the guy. Heck, I’m pretty sure CP knows nothing about him; there’s no way he’d do that… would he?
I kept hoping for Murtagh’s point of view in Brisingr, as I thought it would actually add something interesting to the book, but to no avail. I wouldn’t want to see Galby’s narration, I think that would ruin what little mystique the guy has managed to build up, but Murtagh’s I’d still like to see. I still think it would be actually interesting. Saphira’s narration, for example, while by no means all that well done, was much more interesting than most of the rest of the book, because at least it was different.
I’d like to see Murtaugh’s narration too, but I got the impression that he’s setting up Murtaugh to turn good at the last moment (probably in some self-sacrificing way). So if that is the intent, if it’s going to be a “surprise” we probably won’t hear him narrate.
Heck, I’m pretty sure CP knows nothing about him; there’s no way he’d do that… would he?
Who knows what goes on in the mind of CP?
No. Way. Teh Murtagh must not self-sacrifice!
No. Way. Teh Murtagh must not self-sacrifice!
Well, I always thought that was what he was setting up for. I guess we’ll find out eventually.
