So who on here has read Lloyd Alexander?
I've read many of his books. The Prydain Chronicles are my favorite fantasy that isn't Lewis or Tolkien. Westmark was good too, but in a different way, a sort of real-world way. Of the stand-alones I've read, The Marvelous Misadventures of Sebastian was probably my favorite, though I also liked The Cat Who Wished To Be A Man, The Rope Trick, and The Iron Ring. I've recently finished a book of short stories about Prydain, and I liked them too.
What I like about him is the settings, first of all. He could do traditional 'high' fantasy like Prydain, which sounds like the most cliched thing ever, but he made it work. But he didn't just stick to the traditional medieval European setting. The other ones I've read had settings based on 18th century Europe, on Italy, or on Asian Indian legends, to name a few. I also liked his characterization. He does conflicted people very well.
    So go ahead and discuss!
